While involved in a number of different areas of the law, I have a general practice which includes representation of clients in Banking law, Transportation, Construction law, and Real Estate matters. Also, as a practitioner in the Appellate Practice arena, I was selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America® 2010 in the field of Appellate Litigation.. In addition to advising clients and litigating in these areas, I regularly provide presentations to various industry groups concerning these matters and is the author and co-author of several articles related to these matters.

My primary practice emphasis is in construction law, including construction defects, delay claims, claims for extra work, mechanic’s liens and contract interpretation.  I have extensive experience in trial and appellate work, arbitrations, mediations, contract review and consulting.  I am a regular writer and speaker, having presented many seminars and lectures to professional, construction and civic groups throughout the State of Iowa, surrounding states and international locations concerning construction-related legal issues.. My undergraduate degree from Iowa State University is in Construction Engineering and prior to attending law school, I was a contractor and real estate developer for over fourteen years.  I obtained my law degree from Drake University in 1992, graduating Order of the Coif.

My primary area of practice involves construction disputes. I am an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association’s Construction Arbitrator Panel, a member of the American Bar Association's Forum on Construction Law, Iowa State Bar Association’s Construction Law Section, the firm’s Construction Law Practice Group, and various residential and commercial construction trade associations.. I have handled a wide variety of disputes, such as personal injury, insurance, business, agricultural, banking, and commercial disputes.. Prior to joining the firm in 2001, I worked for two years as a judicial law clerk to Judge Harold Vietor of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Iowa.

My practice is entirely devoted to matters related to construction law, from the point of view of contractors, owners, and subcontractors. I have practiced in this area for more than 35 years, and has been recognized by my peers in the national publications Best Lawyers in America and Super Lawyers in construction law.. I serve as an arbitrator and mediator in construction disputes and have been a certified member of the American Arbitration Association’s Construction (Commercial) arbitration panel for many years. I was recently inducted as a Fellow into the College of Commercial Arbitrators, as the only member of that organization from the state of Iowa.

Much of my practice focuses on construction-related claims involving contractors, subcontractors, material suppliers, homeowners, and sureties. Additionally, I handle general litigation, business, and real estate matters,. I became a member with Whitfield & Eddy in 2013.  Prior to joining the firm as an associate attorney in 2006, I worked in the construction industry for both union and non-union businesses and operated my own construction company for several years.

Michael A. Dee is a member of BrownWinick and a past member of the firm's Management Committee. Brian P. Brad's law practice focuses primarily on litigation, construction law, and labor and employment law.  Prior to practicing law, Brad taught high school and coached sports in West Moines, Iowa.  Brad also served as an infantryman in the Iowa Army National Guard.  In his private life, Brad is married and has twin daughters.  He enjoys spending time with his immediate family and his large extended family.
