I have practiced criminal law in San Antonio and the surrounding areas for over 20 years.  I like what I do.  I believe every person deserves a zealous defense.  It doesn't matter to me if you are innocent, guilty, or somewhere in between.  It is my goal to protect your record and  to do my best to keep it as clean as possible.  This means that just because you are "guilty" I am still going to hold the State to the high burden of being able to prove your case and I am going to do everything I can to obtain the best result for you.  I also will go to trial when necessary.  I have handled almost every type of criminal case from traffic tickets up to capital murder and I am very familiar with the Bexar County Courts.. I have enjoyed practicing law in San Antonio for 42 years.  I have been Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law for over 37 years by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.  I enjoy my work and enjoy working on challenging cases.  My trial experience includes aviation, trucking, product liability, oilfield, railroad and other causes of serious personal injuries and wrongful death.  I want clients to understand their situation and have all of their questions answered.  I want to be known for communication and availability. I have enjoyed living in San Antonio, Texas for the last 40 years.  I am blessed to have a wonderful family with a supoportive wife and a son and daughter.  In my free time I enjoy playing chess, spending time with friends and family, and taking care of my two cute cats, Niko and Koko.

I grew up in the small town of Hallettsville, Texas and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin and St. Mary’s University School of Law in San Antonio. Prior to law school I worked as a petroleum landman where I researched title to land for oil and gas companies. I continued to work as a landman during and after law school. My knowledge in tracing mineral title and conducting genealogy research helped me make a natural transition into probate law and estate planning.. I take pride in my ability to navigate through the legal process while maintaining a compassionate understanding for the feelings and intentions of those that I am privileged to help in the San Antonio community. The city of San Antonio is special to me because it is where I met my husband and we started our own family.. I know how important it is to plan for the future and to protect our loved ones. I also know how difficult it is to go through the probate procedure after losing someone that you love. I grew up in San Antonio, Texas.  I graduated magna cum laude from Trinity University in 2005 with a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Economics and Sociology.  After graduating from Trinity University, I went on to earn my J.D. from St. Mary’s University School of Law.  There, I served as the Executive Comments Editor for one of the school’s major publications, The Scholar: St. Mary’s Law Review on Minority Issues.  I also worked extensively with a San Antonio mediator and arbitrator, Dan Naranjo, researching and writing on a number of legal topics.. After law school, I decided to remain in San Antonio to give back to the community I grew up in.  I served as a Briefing Attorney with the Fourth Court of Appeals for Chief Justice Alma Lopez and Justice Marialyn Barnard for two years.  After that, I worked as an oil and gas attorney reviewing a variety of documents surrounding the transfer of property.  In 2013, I decided to open my own practice, handling a number of probate matters in the following counties: Bexar, Comal, and Wilson.  Shorty after opening my practice, a Staff Attorney position with the Fourth Court of Appeals opened and I was asked to return to the court to continue appellate work permanently.

I grew up and attended public schools in San Antonio, Texas.  I received my Doctor of Laws from St. Mary's University School of Law in 2000 and my Bachelor of Arts in Economics from St. Mary's University in 1994.. Before private practice, I worked for several law firms, and served as a state prosecutor in Webb County, and also served as an assistant city attorney in Laredo, Texas.. I'm an avid cyclist, and have participated in several charitable cycling events including the Tour de Cure, and the MS-150.   I also enjoy spending time with my family traveling, and enjoying the outdoors.

I graduated from Baylor University in 1995 with a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Financial Services & Planning and International Business. In December 1997, I received my J.D. from St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas. I am licensed to practice in Texas and the Federal Courts for the Western and Southern Districts of Texas.. My law practice has an emphasis on the representation of condominium and homeowners' associations in general legal matters, assessment collection, and covenant enforcement actions.  During several sessions of the Texas Legislature, I provided testimony in front of various Texas House of Representative and Senate Committees regarding bills related to the operation, management, and authority of homeowners associations.. I earned my Juris Doctorate from the University of Texas School of Law.  Prior to attending law school, I worked as a paralegal in San Antonio for five years, primarily in the area of Family Law.  I have a B.A. in Political Science, and graduated with honors from UTSA.. I earned my experience in litigation from the ground-up by first working in support roles before becoming an attorney myself.  I have the experience and knowledge to effectively assist clients in cases involving Divorce, Child Custody, Child Support, Preparation and Probate of Wills, and Evictions.. In a addition to being a litigator, I am also a trained Mediator, and am qualified and available to mediate many types of civil disputes.

I didn't become a lawyer until much later in life. I am a proud United States Navy Veteran and worked in aviation for over a dozen years before attending law school. My background is blue collar and rose through the ranks by working hard, being dedicated to the task at hand, and maintaining my integrity throughout everything. I have extensive experience in negotiations, conflict resolution, compliance and regulations, which sparked my interest in the law to begin with. Being licensed to practice in the great state of Texas has been the pinnacle of my career to date, as it has given me the opportunity to give client's the much needed "win" they may have never experienced before.. You wouldn't go into a retail store to buy a 4K television and allow the sales associate to be rude or disrespectful. You would walk out and buy the set from someone who treated you the way you wanted to be treated. That is true in any service industry and sometimes some lawyers forget we are offering a service to our clients.. I have found in my practice that a majority of my clients do not understand what a retainer is or how it works. A retainer is like a savings account that the law firm holds for the client and has two functions. First, it protects you from paying an attorney a lot of your hard earned money and nothing is being done on your case. Second, it protects the lawyer in that at the end of the month when I send you an invoice for work that has been done in your matter, I pull the funds from the retainer. This ensures I have money to pay my rent, employee salaries, and other expenses. As I work your case and the retainer gets lower, it is my job to discuss the status of your case with you and let you know what we still have to do to achieve your goal. Then we discuss replenishing the retainer with more money to achieve the results you want. Once the matter is finalized and our relationship has ended, any balance left in the retainer is refunded to you.

I began my career as an attorney in 1999 with the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General's Corps, serving until 2005. I then practiced law as a civilian attorney at the U.S. Army Medical Command Headquarters, located at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.  In that position, I primarily worked on health insurance and Medicare-related legal issues. In 2008, I accepted a position at the University of Texas Health Science Center-San Antonio as a Regulatory Analyst for Research Operations, where I gave advice on legal issues pertaining to clinical (medical) research, in particular Medicare and insurance billing matters.  I operated my own law office from 2009-2016. In November 2016, I began working at the Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas, base legal office as a civilian employee. I also joined the Air Force Reserves as a JAG attorney in 2016.. I am licensed to practice law in both Texas and Missouri.  I have a bachelor's degree from North Dakota State University, and I earned my law degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. I served as an enlisted soldier in the U.S. Army Reserves while in law school, until receiving my commission into the JAG Corps.. I am active in a number of professional organizations including serving as a past  President of the San Antonio Chapter of the Federal Bar Association and a past chair of the Military Law Section of the State Bar of Texas. I am an appointed officer  of my sorority alumnae association.. In my spare time, I enjoy reading and running, having completed several ultra-marathons, marathons, and half-marathons.

I am originally from Fort Wayne, Indiana and I began my nearly 16 year tenure as a registered respiratory therapist in healthcare facilities throughout Indiana, Ohio, and eventually Texas, as I was also practicing law..
