Mary Lou Bylsma was born on November 20, 1972 in Shreveport, Louisiana, and has dedicated her legal career to helping injured workers. I have practiced law since 1969. I started with a small general practice law firm. I then moved to the DA's office as an assistant DA where I tried hundreds of criminal cases. Then I was hired to run the first fulltime Public Defender's office (1976-1978). At the Public Defender's office I defended hundreds of people who were charged with a crime. I handled every kind of case from First Degree Murder to Misdemeanor traffic violations. In 1978 I ran for Caddo Parish District Attorney and was elected. I served as DA for 30 years which is five 6 year terms. Upon retirement I went into private practice and now limit my practice to criminal defense at the Law Office of Stroud, Carmouche & Buckle. I have a AV Preeminent Rating with Martindale-Hubbell. DWI/DUI and DRUG charges are the area where I spend most of my time.

I grew up in Shreveport and graduated high school from Southwood.  After getting my law degree I returned home to practice law with my family.  I have been married since 1999 and we have 3 sons.
