Kristy M. Rans – Partner. Kristy Rans, a founding partner of Gardner & Rans P.C., was born and raised in South Bend, Indiana, and is a life-long resident of Northern Indiana. She has spent her entire law career litigating cases throughout the State of Indiana on behalf of both plaintiffs and defendants, including catastrophic injury, first and third party insurance claims, and insurance coverage disputes.. James A. Masters  (M.B.A., J.D., University of Notre Dame, 1978) has been a member of the firm since 1980 and is President of the law corporation.  Mr. Masters' areas of practice include business, corporate, and commercial law, real estate transactions, probate and estate planning.  A substantial part of Mr. Masters' practice is devoted to business and commercial litigation, including defense of condemnation cases, and real estate transaction, including zoning and other land use planning issues.

I'm a JD graduate from the Indiana University Maurer School of Law with an undergraduate background in criminal justice, psychology, and political science.. My first summer of law school I interned in Washington, DC with both the Department of Homeland Security (OIG) and the Department of Commerce (OGC).. My second summer I was a judicial extern for a federal magistrate judge in the Northern District of Indiana. I worked primarily on Social Security law, sanctions, and attorney's fees and got to see the  Federal Judiciary from the inside.. In the fall of my 3L year, I volunteered with District 10 Pro Bono Project, managing Medicaid and Social Security applications and appeals, and working on family court litigation.. In my 3L spring I externed at the Sargent Shriver National Center of Poverty Law (Chicago) in the Health Care Justice division, also working in fair housing, criminal record expungement, domestic violence, and asset building.. I worked for about three years as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for St. Joseph County, first in the Traffic & Misdemeanor Division and then in the Special Victims Unit. I now work as a Staff Attorney for the Indiana Department of Child Services.

Alex was born in Louisville, Kentucky where almost all of his huge extended family still lives. His father is one of ten children and his mother one of nine children.. After graduating from the University of Dayton in 2011, Alex moved to Washington, D.C. where he worked as Senator Mitch McConnell’s personal assistant.. He is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame Law School class of 2016. While attending law school, Alex clerked for the Honorable John Heyburn III in the Western District of Kentucky and worked at the U.S. Attorney’s office in Louisville.In his spare time, Alex enjoys fishing and other outdoor sports and activities. He is an avid sports fan and follows the University of Louisville and Notre Dame athletics religiously.Alex and his wife Randi were married in June of 2016 and now reside in South Bend.
