Karl was born and raised in Lake County, Indiana.  He attended college at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio where he graduated in 1990 with a B.S. in business.  He is a member of the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity.  After graduating from Miami University, he attended Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan where he graduated in 1993 with honors.. Karl started his legal career working at the law firm of Hand Muenich Wilk & Reid located in Highland, Indiana.  His father and legal mentor, Albert C. Hand, was the founder of the law firm.  For several years, Karl and his father worked together in civil practice, including insurance defense, personal injury, and business litigation.  His father instilled in him the obligation of representing every client’s concern or need with diligence and respect.. For the last three (3) years, Karl has been a principal with the Hand Law Group, P.C. He continues to emphasize the practice area of civil litigation representing both plaintiffs and defendants in serious personal injury and accident law, divorce and family law, estate planning, probate administration, business transactions and disputes, real estate law, and wrongful death.. Since 2000, Karl and his family have resided in Schererville, Indiana where his wife and twin children are very active in the local school and sports communities.  He is a sports enthusiast and enjoys snow skiing, golf and coaching his son’s basketball and baseball teams and his daughter’s basketball teams.

I serve in the capacity of a Guardian Ad Litem, representing the best interests of children, in family law matters.  As well, I have been trained as a Parenting Time Coordinator through the Association of Family and Conciliatory Courts (AFCC), and enjoy the opportunity to assist families in difficult and high-conflict parenting situtations.. I was raised in Michigan and located in the Region after attending college and law school at Valparaiso University.  I am a proud double-graduate of VU with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1992 and a Juris Doctorate, cum laude, in 1995.  As a member of the Moot Court Honor Society Executive Board during law school, I participated as a team member in national moot court competitions across the country.  I also clerked with my now-business partner's law firm during all three years of law school, and took and passed both the Indiana and Illinois bar exams in 1995.. I have practiced in the field of family law for most of my career. I successfully completed the rigorous application and testing process to become one of the first Certified Family Law Specialists, as certified by the Family Law Certification Board, in the State of Indiana in 2002. I remain one of only a handful of certified specialists in Lake County. I am also a Registered Family Law Mediator and a trained Parenting Time Coordinator, providing services in high conflict matters. With extensive experience in dissolution of marriage, paternity, child custody, child support, adoption, name changes and appeals, I enjoy positively affecting the lives of my clients by making difficult times less stressful and easier to understand.. I am a member of the Lake County Bar Association, the Indiana State Bar Association and the Women Lawyer’s Association, Inc. I served on the Board of Directors for the Lake County Bar Association from 2002 to 2004, and served as Recording Secretary of the Women Lawyers Association, Inc. for several years.. I have been a presenter of continuing legal education seminars in the area of family law and have authored successful family law appeals in both the Indiana Court of Appeals and the Indiana Supreme Court.. I am actively involved in the Indiana Chapter of the Association of Family and Conciliatory Courts (AFCC), currently serving on the Board of Directors, as Treasurer of the organization, and on the Programming Committee. This involvement has solidified my passion for multi-disciplinary work in which legal professionals, the judiciary and mental health professionals can work together to educate one another and assist high-conflict families.. I have volunteered as a speaker for Indiana State Bar Association programs which seek to educate children about the law and civics. I have presented on behalf of the “Why Lincoln Was a Lawyer?” community outreach program and the Indiana Kids’ Election Speaker’s Bureau, as well as serving as a judge for the We The People program.  Having been passionate about being a lawyer since I was in third grade, I want to share the profession with young children and encourage them to serve and make a difference as well.

Attorney David M. Wendlinger joined Funk & Wendlinger, LLC in 2011. His practice consists of both Family Law and Criminal family law, he handles Divorce, Child Custody and Visitation, Support Modification, Paternity and Adoption. He also handles personal injury cases as well as general litigation. Under criminal defense, he handles cases such as OWI/DUI, Felonies/Misdemeanors, Traffic Cases/License Suspensions, and Juvenile Delinquencies. David was admitted to the Illinois State Bar and the U.S. District for the Northern District of Illinois in 2002. He was then admitted to the Indiana State Bar in 2009. Upon graduation from law school, David was In-House Counsel for LaSalle Bank, NA handling land trusts and asset-based loan transactions. From there he worked as an Underwriter for Chicago Title underwriting insurance policies for large commercial loan transactions secured by collateral governed by Article 9 of the Uniform Commercial Code. In 2009, David joined the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office. As a Deputy Prosecutor, he handled cases in most of the criminal courts in Lake County. He gained experience prosecuting criminal charges as minor as traffic violations, to more serious matters involving gun charges, theft, battery and OWI/DUIs, to the most serious of crimes: murder.. David grew up in Schererville and graduated from Lake Central High School in 1994. He graduated from Northwood University in 1999 with a B.B.A. in International Business Management. From there he attended Valparaiso University School of Law and graduated in 2002.
