Karl was born and raised in Lake County, Indiana.  He attended college at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio where he graduated in 1990 with a B.S. in business.  He is a member of the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity.  After graduating from Miami University, he attended Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan where he graduated in 1993 with honors.. Karl started his legal career working at the law firm of Hand Muenich Wilk & Reid located in Highland, Indiana.  His father and legal mentor, Albert C. Hand, was the founder of the law firm.  For several years, Karl and his father worked together in civil practice, including insurance defense, personal injury, and business litigation.  His father instilled in him the obligation of representing every client’s concern or need with diligence and respect.. For the last three (3) years, Karl has been a principal with the Hand Law Group, P.C. He continues to emphasize the practice area of civil litigation representing both plaintiffs and defendants in serious personal injury and accident law, divorce and family law, estate planning, probate administration, business transactions and disputes, real estate law, and wrongful death.. Since 2000, Karl and his family have resided in Schererville, Indiana where his wife and twin children are very active in the local school and sports communities.  He is a sports enthusiast and enjoys snow skiing, golf and coaching his son’s basketball and baseball teams and his daughter’s basketball teams.
