My practice focuses on construction and contract law and complex commercial litigation. I have advised public and private clients on various issues throughout the construction process, negotiated and drafted design and construction contracts, prepared various procurement documents, and successfully represented clients throughout the dispute resolution process in both trial and appellate courts.  I have served as lead counsel and second chair for bench and jury trials and have tried criminal felony jury trials while participating in a trial fellowship program with the King County Prosecutor’s office.  I have also served as a third-party neutral, assisting parties in resolving their disputes.. I teach Construction Law for the University of Washington’s Construction Management program. I co-authored chapters 4, and 4.1 of the Washington Civil Procedure Deskbook.  I have also written several articles on construction law and have presented sections on construction law for government contracting and continuing legal education seminars.. Perhaps the biggest focus area of my practice has been construction law.  In the construction arena, I have represented owners, general contractors and subcontractors in payment disputes in federal and state courts, as well as arbitration. I have successfully resolved well over a hundred cases involving federal, state and municipal projects, as well as disputes arising from privately owned developments such as condominiums and office complexes. My representation of construction clients also includes bid protests and appearances before administrative agencies.. Regardless of the issue at hand, clients should be able to trust their lawyer to devise a strategy that gives them the best chance of reaching their goals. Skillful lawyering takes many forms, but my clients walk away at the end of their case knowing that their lawyer had a thoughtful plan that was designed to pave the way to a successful result.. My practice focuses on business and commercial litigation. A great deal of my work involves real estate disputes, landlord tenant disputes, construction disputes and general business disputes. Sometimes that involves fighting like a junk yard dog through trial. More often though, it involves being reasonable and cool headed while convincing the adverse party and his/her attorney of the merit's of my client's case. When I do my job correctly, the adverse party backs off his/her position and negotiates a resolution that most benefits my party. If I do my job correctly, we don't unnecessarily churn through thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars in attorney's fees. My clients never say, "the only winners in the litigation were the attorneys."

In order to be an effective advocate, it is critical that we develop a trusting and honest connection. I also value my relationships with opposing counsel and other members of the bar. I have found that thoughtful analysis, combined with respectful communications with the other side can often resolve even the most difficult situations.

In my free time, I'm an avid baker, care-taker for abused and abandonded dogs, and, despite a black-thumb, I hope to start growing herbs.
