Carter was born and raised in Broomfield, Colorado and graduated from Metropolitan State University of Denver in December, 2020 with a B.A. in English. After graduating, he went on to graduate from the University of Colorado School of Law in Boulder, Colorado with a Juris Doctor in May, 2024.. Carter joined the Colorado Office of the Alternate Defense Counsel as a contractor at the conclusion of his first year of law school. The OADC paired Carter with Angela Campbell and they immediately began working together to serve and protect the rights of indigent criminal defendants. With Angela, Carter conducted complex legal research, drafted memoranda on intricate legal issues, and authored motions and briefs in support of clients facing serious charges. Between his first and second years of law school, Carter gained further experience working with an appellate law firm, drafting appellate briefs, postconviction petitions, and petitions for certiorari to the Colorado Supreme Court on behalf of criminal defendants.. Carter also spent a semester studying abroad in Madrid, Spain, where he attained fluency in Spanish and studied international law, broadening his understanding of legal systems around the world. Upon his return, he resumed his work with the OADC and, under the Student Practice Act, managed a caseload of misdemeanor cases, including those involving traffic offenses, drug charges, assaults, thefts, domestic violence, and DUIs.. Michael Axt was born in Newark, New Jersey on July 20, 1945. He graduated with a BA in Psychology from Rutgers University in 1967 and received his law degree from Rutgers School of Law Camden in 1970. After a judicial clerkship and more than three years with the New Jersey Public Defender’s Office in Newark, Michael relocated to Denver, Colorado. In 1974, he and two colleagues established The Office of the Federal Public Defender for the District of Colorado. Since entering private practice in 1979, Michael has defended the criminally accused in federal and state courts in Colorado and other jurisdictions throughout the country.. Michael is a member of The National Trial Lawyers, an organization limited to the top 100 lawyers from each state. He is listed as an AV Preeminent Attorney by Martindale-Hubbell for his twenty five years of continuous AV-rating, the highest professional and ethical designation. Elizabeth Espinosa Krupa is a Colorado Native and has been a litigator for over 20 years.  She is a graduate of the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law. Her litigation background includes a Deputy Colorado State Public Defender, a Federal Defender for the District of Colorado, a Trial Attorney for the Denver Regional Office of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission and Assistant Regulation Counsel for the Colorado Supreme Court Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel. Ms. Krupa is a Faculty Member for National Institute for Trial Advocacy. Ms. Krupa is currently in private practice, her firm litigates criminal defense, ethics/professional misconduct, white collar and organized crime and securities enforcement actions. While I am not a native to Colorado. I love this state and consider it my home. I grew up in Kansas the daughter of farmer and a homemaker. Not withstanding all the Wizard of Oz jokes I have to hear-it was a pretty good way to grow-up, and a good way to learn a strong work ethic. I came to Colorado immediately after law school, only wanting to practice in this state that I always loved visiting and vacationing growing up.. I practiced criminal law exclusively my first three years. Handling thousands of cases from misdemeanors to felony murder. I gained a lot of trial experience during these years. I then turned my attention to family law and have handled both family law and criminal law cases since.. When I am not practicing law. I love all out-door activies such as running, skiing, hiking, and walking my dog!
