Professional Background:After finishing my law degree, I went into practice for myself for several years, eventually forming a small firm. I am a life long resident of Northwest Indiana with strong ties to the community.  Growing up in Gary and Merrillville, I graduated from Andrean High School in 1980.  I then attended Indian University in Bloomington and graduated in 1984 from the Business School with a BS in Finance.  Indiana University is also where I obtained my law degree, graduting in 1987.. I grew up around small businesses. One of my grandfathers was an insurance agent in Denton. My other set of grandparents owned a bookstore in Irving. My father ran a financial services company in north Dallas with about ten employees, and during high school I often worked in his office after classes. I spent my summers working on commercial construction sites and watching how each contractor depended on the others to perform their obligations.At Stanford I majored in economics, in part because of its importance to business. But for me the real draw was the way in which economics approaches decision making: How do you balance expected costs and benefits to get the best possible outcome when the future is not entirely clear? I have been an attorney serving injured people throughout Indiana for more than 30 years.  Whether those injuries were caused by the carelessness of a medical provider, motor vehicle operator, land owner, dog owner or other negligent party, I have worked diligently to represent my clients' best interests.  Unfortunately, sometimes the careless acts of another resulted in a person's death; and though I could never adequately right such a wrong, it has been my humble honor to make a positive difference in the lives of the surviving spouses, parents and children who lost a loved one in the many wrongful death claims I have handled..
