A passion for law and justice began early for LaMarlon Barksdale. Raised in his home state of Delaware by his single mother and the oldest of three; he learned the value of hard work, determination, and education. He saw firsthand the value of commitment, and honor in his mother’s long days and nights at the Veteran’s Administration in Elsmere, Delaware.. It was from her sacrifice that he learned to always do right by other people and to work hard in all of his endeavors in life. Her example led him to serve his country in the United States Navy and to also serve the City of Philadelphia as an Assistant District Attorney.  Helping others is a significant part of his ethos.. This strong foundation aided in his success at the University of Delaware and led to four years as a Juvenile Probation Officer in the State of Delaware and then to law school.. After obtaining his Juris Doctorate degree and passing the Pennsylvania bar exam, Mr. Barksdale became an Assistant District Attorney with the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office.  It was here that he gained his trial experience and successfully prosecuted misdemeanor and felony cases on behalf of the Commonwealth.. He believes that preparing the next generation of our society is a great honor and one that should not be taken lightly. He was given the opportunity to teach the next generation of police officers in the State of Delaware as an Adjunct Criminal Law Instructor.  He is a father of a son and daughter, whom he love spending time with fishing.. Attorney Cherie McKenna is a 1998 cum laude graduate of Suffolk University Law School and a 1995 summa cum laude graduate of the University of New Hampshire.  Licensed in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and the U.S. District Courts of Massachusetts and Rhode Island, Attorney McKenna has been practicing for over 16 years with a wide range of experience, including criminal defense, appellate practice, insurance defense litigation and family law, and thoroughly enjoys providing compassionate representation for people during their time of need.. After graduating with honors from Suffolk University Law School and becoming admitted to practice in 1998, Attorney McKenna spent three years in the public service sector by providing criminal defense representation to under-privileged clients in the District Courts of Middlesex County.  Attorney McKenna was also accepted to the Post Conviction Relief Panel of public defenders, wherein she represented criminal defendants at the appellate level.  She has written several criminal appellate briefs, has presented oral argument before the Appeals Court of Massachusetts, and successfully reversed a criminal conviction on the basis of Fourth Amendment search and seizure violations.. Attorney McKenna entered private practice in 2001, where she began practicing civil litigation with a boutique law firm in Boston, focusing on the investigation of fraudulent insurance claims, personal injury liability defense practice, and insurance coverage issues.   In 2011, Attorney McKenna left her law firm to begin the pursuit of her own law practice.  Attorney McKenna has established herself in the areas of family law, criminal defense, and personal injury practice, and is also a trained mediator, and a member of the Hampden County Bar Association Mediation Arbitration Panel of Attorneys.  She is an active Member of the Hampden County Bar Association, a member of the Massachusetts Council on Family Mediation, and was recently appointed to the panel of attorneys for the Children’s Law Project of Hampden County.. When Attorney McKenna is not working, she is an avid supporter of the arts.  She frequents local theater, museum and symphony events with her husband, participates in tap and jazz dance classes in Easthampton, and loves to sing and dance, especially with her daughter.  She is proud to be on the Board of Directors for the Community Music School of Springfield, and is actively involved on several sub-committees, from fundraising to strategic planning. The father had been awarded custody of the little girl in another state, but the mother brought the girl to Massachusetts instead. Attorney Miller proved the father had a valid court order from another state, granting him legal custody. The judge not only upheld the custody order, but also gave Attorney Miller the authority “to have any and all police departments execute the safe return of the child to her father.” After the judge’s ruling, he recalled, “The dad cried and hugged me and put his daughter in his car and went home with her, just like he was supposed to.”. Andy Miller says he approaches divorce and family law cases differently than many other lawyers. “Too many attorneys in this field believe that the best way to represent their clients is by putting gas on the fire. I think my clients are better served and can achieve more when we put the fires out.”. He prefers to take a conciliatory approach, seeking to build from common ground to achieve his clients’ objectives through negotiation whenever possible. But if that doesn’t work, he’s ready to battle it out in the courtroom. “I won’t pick the fight,” he says. “But if the fight’s brought to me, the gloves come off.”.
