I started Common Law after leaving a large Salt Lake firm. My goal is to provide effective and efficient expertise in the resolution of tax and financial disputes. I have done my job when I have reduced the stress of dealing with the government and the legal system, and I have helped you find a resolution that works for you.. I’ve been practicing law for over twenty years. I have litigated numerous cases at city, county, and state tax agencies, at all of the IRS administrative levels, and at the trial court level in both the state and federal courts of Utah, courts in other states, and the United States Tax Court.. I also have substantial appellate court experience, including before the Utah Court of Appeals, the Utah Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, and the United States Tax Court.. Although my emphasis is tax, I have litigated cases in numerous commercial areas of law, including real estate disputes, insurance coverage disputes, corporate and contract disputes, and financial transaction disputes.. I am admitted to practice before all Utah State Courts, the U.S. District Court for Utah, the U.S. Tax Court, the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Supreme Court. I earned an LLM in Tax from Georgetown University and my law degree from the University of Utah. I have been recognized in 2017-2021 as one of the Best Lawyers in America in the area of Commercial Litigation and Tax Law by Best Lawyers.. In my free time, I’m a telemark skier, a trail runner, and a dad with two kids and a Siamese cat.

Clinton E. Duke is a registered patent attorney and a member of the Durham Jones & Pinegar's Intellectual Property and Litigation Sections. I've litigated a wide range of cases on issues of concern to intellectual property owners and users including: international and domestic copyright infringement; patent and design patent infringement; trade secret disputes; trademark and trade dress infringement; breaches of entertainment industry contracts; counterfeiting; and false advertising.. My commercial litigation experience includes representing telecommunications providers in inter-carrier disputes; representing investor funds, directors and companies in lawsuits involving fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, and violation of federal and state regulations; representing insurance industry participants and regulators; representing commercial real estate developers and investors; and representing vendors and purchasers in cases involving failed computer systems.. I write and lecture frequently on copyright law. I am the co-author of "Substantial Similarity In Copyright Law" (PLI 2003-2009 (available for Kindle download at )), a treatise devoted to the analysis of the ways in which courts compare works in copyright infringement cases. I was part of the group that drafted the ABA model jury instructions for copyright infringement cases (published spring 2008). Susie Furr practices in the area of labor and employment law.  Her concentration is in employment litigation, employment counseling, and business litigation.. Julia M. Purchase has dedicated her career to the practice of family law and helping families and children through the legal process. Laura Sherling Dunning is an of counsel attorney in the Securities and Business Litigation practice group of Levin, Papantonio.  Ms. Dunning has twice been recognized as an Alabama Super Lawyer Rising Star in Securities Litigation. Her practice focuses primarily upon representing individuals and entities seeking financial recovery for losses from securities fraud. Ms. Dunning has represented more than 300 victims of securities fraud in FINRA arbitration and in state and federal court.  Her clients include state and municipal pension funds, as well as institutional and sophisticated investors, and she recently obtained a $1.95 million award in FINRA arbitration for a sophisticated investor who sustained losses in auction rate securities.  Ms. Dunning’s practice also includes complex business litigation, whistleblower, class action and antitrust litigation.. Prior to joining Levin Papantonio, Ms. Dunning practiced with Haskell Slaughter Young & Rediker in Birmingham, Alabama, where her nationwide civil litigation practice concentrated on securities matters in state and federal courts as well as AAA and FINRA arbitration..
