David J. Dietrich graduated from Whitman College with a BA degree with honors in 1979.  He served in the Peace Corps in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.  He attended the University Of Montana College Of Law and graduated with a Juris Doctor (JD) in 1984.. David J. Dietrich is the Chair of the Real Property, Probate and Trusts Law section of the American Bar Association and a fellow of the American College of Trusts and Estates counsel.  He is a past Co-Chair of the ABA’s Property Preservation Task Force, which lately resulted in the Uniform Law Commission’s adoption of the Uniform Partition of Heirs Property Act.  David is currently on the University of Montana Tax Institute Advisory Board and serves on the Board of Trustees of Rocky Mountain College in Billings.  He served for six years on the Board of Directors of the Montana Land Reliance, a private land trust in Montana, having in excess of 1,000,000 acres under protection.. David is a fourth generation Montanan with a diverse ranching, real estate and estate planning background located in south central Montana, Billings, the largest and most diverse city in the Northern Great Plains.  His firm, Dietrich & Associates, P.C., has provided real estate tax and estate planning services to the region for over 24 years involving wills, trusts and real estate transactions including conservation easements, business organizations and real estate litigation.. Justin was born and raised in Montana and attended the University of Montana School of Law.  He graduated from the University of Montana School of Law with honors.  After earning a J.D.,  Justin continued his education at the University of Florida where he obtained an LL.M. in Taxation.       During his tenure in Law School, Justin was the Co-founder and Co-president of the Outdoor Law and Recreation Group.  Justin has continued to maintain an active lifestyle and an appreciation for the outdoors.  Justin is also a member of BETTR (Business, Estates, Trusts, Tax, and Real Property) Section of the Montana Bar Association.

I focus my practice on helping clients protect their families and their wealth and helping our business owner clients plan for the most important financial event of their lives: the transition out of their business. I am a member of WealthCounsel, a national consortium of estate planning attorneys, the State Bar of Montana’s Trust and Estates section and the Cascade County Estate Planning Council. I was born and raised in Great Falls, and earned a bachelor’s degree in Russian Studies, magna cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania.  Earned my law degree from the University of Michigan and initially practiced corporate and securities law in Houston, Texas.  When I returned to Montana, I worked as a trial lawyer with the Great Falls law firm of Jardine, Stephenson, Blewett & Weaver before joining my father-in-law, Bill Scott, to form Scott & Tokerud in 1986. I have been active in public service and in 2009 received the State Bar of Montana’s Neil Haight Pro Bono Award for my fourteen years of work to obtain political asylum for a political dissident from the Soviet Union. I have served as chairman of the board of the Great Falls Chamber of Commerce and Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Great Falls, and also served on the boards of the Benefis Healthcare Foundation, United Way of Cascade County, Sister Cities of Great Falls and the Montana/Kazakhstan Exchange Project. I play the clarinet and saxophone and have been a member of the Great Falls Symphony as well as the Harold Nicholls Big Band. I am fluent in Russian and my interests extend from building democracy in Russia to pheasant hunting.
