Peter J. Peter has written and lectured on workers’ compensation throughout Pennsylvania for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute and The Pennsylvania Bureau of Workers’ Compensation and was a frequent guest speaker on The Legal Checkup 1480 WCNS AM Radio.  A member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, Westmoreland Bar Association, Allegheny Bar Association, Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association and American Inns of Court, Peter is admitted to practice before the courts of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania.. Within two years of being admitted to the bar, Peter tackled the then newly developing area of psychological injuries in the work place. He successfully convinced the Commonwealth Court that if a work-related psychological disability is associated with physical injury, the injured worker need only prove the basic requirements of a workers’ compensation claim; that the injury arose out of and was related to the employment. He successfully argued that a heightened burden of proof does not apply, making it easier for workers who sustain injuries such as post traumatic stress disorder to receive their deserved benefits.  Bell v. WCAB (Allegheny County Housing Department), 620 A.2d 589 (1993).. More recently in the case of HCR ManorCare v. WCAB (Bollman), 951 A.2d 1242 (2008) the Commonwealth Court agreed with Peter’s arguments that a medical provider’s failure to provide medical records as part of procedure to determine if the treatment is reasonable and necessary does not necessarily relieve the insurance company from paying the bills.  The Court adapted Peter’s position that the Judge has jurisdiction  to determine if the proper procedures were followed and if not, why they were not.  The Court also agreed that the Judge has the authority to order a whole new procedure.  This important decision saved many injured workers from getting stuck with medical bills caused by their work injuries.. Peter now lives in Penn Township and can frequently be seen hiking the trails of Western Pennsylvania with his beautiful daughter and their dog.  Peter’s other passions include music, running, skiing and mountain biking.

I practice all aspects of family law, including divorce, separation, child support, allocation of parental responsibilities (custody) for parents and non-parents, grand parent visitation, paternity, dependency & neglect cases, and post-decree modifications and enfocements.. I am a member of various bar associations- The Colorado Bar Association, The Denver Bar Association, and the GLBT Bar Association, just to name a few.  I have been recognized as a Super Lawyer "Rising Star" and named the Ally of the Year from the GLBT Bar Association.. Before becoming a lawyer, I taught middle school and loved it!  I just realized that I needed to advocate for people in a different way.  I still participate in school related legal activities, such as Constitution Day.. Outside of my legal work, I enjoy spending time with my family, running, hiking, and mowing my lawn or shoveling my driveway and sidewalks...depending on the season.  I volunteer for various organizations, both legal and non-legal.

I've been on the Front Range of Colorado since 1999, and grew up in Crested Butte, Colorado.  After college in Oregon including a year in Paris, France, I moved to New York City where I worked as a paralegal and attended law school at night.  I've traveled all over Europe and a bit of North Africa, as well as having lived in Japan and the Philippines.  I practice up and down the Front Range of Colorado with an office on the west side of the Denver area, in Golden.  My hobbies include wildlife photography, hiking and skiing.

I came to the family law arena reluctantly.  When I left law school 22 years ago, I swore I would never, ever, ever, ever do another dissolution.  Here, I am years later in a practice that deals with familys in every possible way.  In many ways, I am the only lawyer a person will have contact with in their lives.  I divorce them, do their pre-nuptial agreements, their annulments, their adoptions, their wills, thier probates.. At times it is a hard relationship.  I end up knowing more about people then anyone but then after lots of hard work together, I am satisfied in knowing I did the best I could to help them along to a new phase of life.. I feel it is important to take the long view.  Clients spend maybe a couple of years with their attorney but will be parents of the children forever.  It is important to handle matters in such a way as to protect the relationship so the children don't end up the real victims.

Daren was born in Provo, Utah. He attended Brigham Young University on a Presidential Scholarship and graduated from the University Honors Program, cum laude in 1991.. Daren majored in political science and was nominated as a Truman Scholar Nominee, a Scholastic All-American, Member of the Golden Key National Honor Society, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, and Pi Sigma Alpha Honor Society.
