I have been a licensed attorney since March 2007.  I have worked almost exclusively in the field of Immigration law.. I was born and raised in the State of Minnesota, and have been working here as an immigration lawyer since returning in 2009.

I have won cases after successful evidentiary hearings and trials on the merits in complex removal cases for clients seeking asylum, adjustment of status, or cancellation of removal. I effectively represented clients with Habeas Corpus petitions in U.S. Federal District Courts and filed appeal briefs with the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA). I successfully represent clients in a wide range of other immigration matters, including family-based petitions; applications for permanent residence and naturalization; USCIS interviews; appointments at the National Visa Center; and in matters of embassy/consular processing.. Criminal. I have successfully defended clients facing criminal charges, including: felonies, gross misdemeanors, misdemeanors, operating under the Influence (Drugs or Alcohol), and domestic assault. I have also successfully expunged clients’ criminal records and represented clients facing traffic offenses.. Family. I effectively represent clients in family law matters involving divorce (both contested and uncontested), custody, and child support. I have negotiated the amicable resolution of divorce and custody cases.. General Practice. I also have experience representing clients in personal injury, probate matters, business transactions, tax matters, and civil litigation.. About Me. I am proud to be a Somali Minnesotan, with roots in my adopted community and my culture, as well as a global outlook. I live in Minneapolis with my family. I serve on the boards of several community-based organizations. As a former refugee myself, I have been in the same boat as many of my clients. I know what a challenge it is to face the complexities of new legal and social services systems. As a former Hennepin County Human Services Officer, I learned that compassion, empathy, and dedication are the keys to providing exceptional service to people in need. These experiences drive me to serve others in their pursuit of justice and a better life for themselves and their families.. My individual practice is not only motivated by the desire to serve others, but also by a “big picture” understanding of the law. I have more than 10 years of teaching and research experience at the University of Minnesota Law School. I am an expert in the areas of Comparative Constitutional Law, Islamic law, and the Rule of Law. I was the founding Chair of the Somaliland Law Reform Commission, working to build a post-conflict justice system. I also taught university-level courses through the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Hargeisa, Somalia. In 2012, I was appointed by the Somali Transitional Government to be a Senior Policy Advisor on Justice and Rule of Law to the President of Somalia. In this role, I conceived, organized and successfully executed the first ever Somali National Dialogue on Justice Reform. I am a frequent guest speaker at universities and colleges, as well as a commentator for local and international media outlets (including BBC, VOA, and local Minnesota media).. This legal policy work has endowed me with a deep understanding of how individuals interact with the law and what is needed to best serve their needs. Jennifer (“Jenny”) Bouta Mojica received her J.D. from the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 2006, and her B.A. in International Studies and French from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, in 1999. Prior to law school, she worked as an Immigration Legal Assistant at Berry, Appleman & Leiden, LLP in San Francisco (2001-2002), and as a Case Manager at Myers Thompson, PA in Minneapolis (2002-2003). In law school, she interned in the Women’s Human Rights program at the Advocates for Human Rights, and worked as a Judicial Law Clerk for the Executive Office for Immigration Review.Jenny has worked with Myers Thompson as an attorney since 2006. Focusing on employment-based immigration, she works with nultinational and domestic clients in a wide range of industries including healthcare, women’s health, medical device development and manufacturing, information technology, marketing and advertising, consumer retail, fitness and sports, transportation, education testing, and television, among other industries. Jenny has extensive experience working on nonimmigrant petitions (H, L, O, TN, E, B-1), J-1 Waiver Applications for Foreign Medical Graduates, Labor Certification Applications, immigrant visa petitions including Extraordinary Ability, Outstanding Researcher and National Interest Waiver Petitions, and Adjustment of Status Applications. She is currently working pro bono on an Asylum case in collaboration with the Advocates for Human Rights. Jenny served as the American Immigration Council’s ambassador to the Minnesota/Dakotas Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers’ Association (AILA) (2009-2011), she has been an AILA member since 2005 and currently serves as an AILA Mentor to other immigration practitioners nationally.

Malee has been a practicing immigration attorney for over 12 years.  She represents primarily individuals and families.  Her immigration practice focuses on family-based immigration cases, removal and deportation defense, humanitarian immigration casess like asylum and TPS, as well as, deferred action for childhood arrivals ("DACA").. She also assists criminal defense attorneys & their clients by advising about immigration consequences of criminal charges and convictions in state and federal court.  Malee has assisted non-citizen clients after conviction petition the court to withdraw their guilty plea or obtain other post-conviction relief to avoid harmful immigration consequences.. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Iowa in Spanish and she has lived and studied internationally in Alicante, Spain. She attended Drake University Law School in Des Moines, Iowa where she received her Juris Doctorate degree. She is licensed to practice law in the state of Minnesota and is admitted to practice in the United States District Court of Minnesota.. Malee is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and Minnesota State Bar Association. She has received the International Academy of Trial Lawyers Award and served as volunteer legal counsel to the St. Paul Jaycees.. Malee is the founder and owner of her law firm, Ketelsen Law Office..
