KRISTIN A. Tiffany Scully Kinder graduated from the University of Virginia in 1994 with a B.A. in Foreign Affairs. While at UVA, she spent a semester abroad studying at the University of Salzburg. From Virginia, she traveled to Denver, Colorado, where she attended the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law and graduated in 1997.  That same year, Ms. Kinder became a licensed attorney in the State of Colorado.   Ms. Kinder began her career representing insurance carriers and employers in the areas of insurance subrogation and general liability.  By 2001, she focused her career on the defense and representation of employers and insurers in workers’ compensation claims and subrogation cases.  Ms. Kinder has extensive experience with Medicare Set Asides and subrogation recovery. Ms. Kinder has appeared on behalf of clients state-wide in State, County, and District Courts, as well as in all Office of Administrative Court forums.  She has also argued before the Colorado Court of Appeals. Stephen Abbott is a graduate of the University of Colorado Law School and Wabash College, where he graduated with distinction.. Before beginning his legal career, Stephen taught English to elementary, high school, and university students in Mexico City where he sharpened his public speaking skills.  After law school, Stephen worked as a law fellow at the City Attorney’s Office in Denver, defending the municipal employer in workers’ compensation actions, and developing the skills he would later take to Lee & Brown.. Stephen has joined the City and County of Denver as an Assitant District Attorney in Workers' Comensation.. For 30 years, the only law I have practiced is workers' compensation.. I represent injured workers.   I deal with the insurance adjuster to try to obtain all the benefits to which you are entitled.   I keep track of your medical treatment to make sure that you are getting the attention you need; that you are seeing the correct specialists for your particular medical problems; I negotiate with the insurance adjuster about these medical treatments; and I go to hearing (like a trial), if necessary, to request that a judge order the insurance company to provide you the medical treatment necessary to get you better and back to work.. For over 21 years, I represented employers and their insurance companies, gaining invaluable insight into the way insurance adjusters think, how they handle your case, what their bosses make them do, what they are and are not allowed to do under our laws, and I now use that extensive knowledge and experience to help injured workers.. I make sure that you are getting the weekly temporary disability benefits (money) to which you are entitled while you are off work or are working part-time or at a lower wage, and still in medical treatment.   After your medical treatment has been completed, I make sure that you are paid the proper dollar amount if you have any permanent disability.  If it is appropriate, I negotiate the best settlement I can for you.. I am the one who deals with the insurance company so you no longer have to. Ms. Lavery’s prior management and business background allow her to work diligently to provide excellent legal defense to her insurer and employer clients, to whom she also regularly counsels on the ever-changing and evolving analysis of legal issues and the law. Ms. Lavery also enjoys working as a trainer/mentor for Associate Attorneys at Lee and Brown, as well as facilitating the Law Clerk program at the firm. Outside of the firm, she has also worked pro bono as a Court-Appointed Special Advocate for Children with Denver CASA since 2009 and continues to remain involved with that organization, even when not handling CASA cases. In her spare time, she enjoys Pilates and makes it a priority to walk, hike, or garden in the Colorado outdoors every day.
