Executor of Deceased Person’s Will Might Have Been Hiding Accounts?

probate attorney New York Aug 5, 2026
Hi everyone! So a bit of context; my grandmother passed away in 2019, and she left behind a pretty decent estate. Her executor was a very good friend to hers, he only said yes to being her executor because of their friendship, otherwise he handles million/billion dollar estates. He had always been a bit of a jerk but we thought that that was just due to how he had to act in his profession. Well fast forward to two days ago, some mail for my grandmother shows up at the house she lived in before she passed, and this mail was from the Office of Unclaimed Property. It is two bank accounts. Now that’s already strange, but what was even MORE strange to me is that we just received news that my grandmother’s executor has been suddenly fired from his firm! The timing just seems odd, and his firm will not elaborate on his firing but it’s definitely something bad. So how do I proceed with this? This account that’s been left “unclaimed” suddenly has a decent amount in it, it would make a huge difference if it is indeed meant to go towards myself and the other beneficiaries of her estate. Thank you! Location: Long Island, New York
