TX Traffic ticket and potential warrant. Need advice!!
traffic attorney Texas Aug 15, 2026
Location: Texas I had received a traffic ticket in Stafford TX back in June and the citation was for Failure to yield row to Emergency Vehicle 212. (I had panicked and pulled over on the left instead of right) This was my first ever ticket and first time being pulled over. I know the rules but I panicked and made a mistake. I decided to contest it to avoid any points on my driving record and hired a traffic attorney online by paying the fee listed on their website. I received their standard letter of representation along with a notice that my court date was reset by them. The letter also stated that my appearance in the court on the pretrial date is mandatory and failing to appear might result in a warrant. Later in June, I had to relocate to another state for work and I assumed that my attorney would represent me in court even if I'm not present and hence I did not make any travel arrangements. Today afternoon the attorney's office gave me a courtesy call to remind me of the court date on Monday and I panicked. I asked them if they cannot just represent me in court without my physical presence and they said that I need to be there otherwise the judge might issue a warrant. I asked them what other options do I have because I cannot book a last minute flight and pay expensive fares. They said that we can file a motion for continuance but that doesn't guarantee an approval and if the judge denies it on Monday then a warrant would be issued. They also mentioned that in case a warrant is issued, I'll need to pay additional court fees and attorney fees to handle the situation. Had I known that I'd be moving, I would have just paid the ticket and be done with it but now I feel I'm in deep trouble. Any advice on what I should do next? Can the attorney truly not represent me without my physical presence? Can I just pay the fine on Monday by calling the court clerk? Would it be too late? Would it cause any kind of interference with my pretrial already scheduled for Monday? I'm unable to pay online now because it the payment portal asks me to enter the amount but I don't know that. The ticket does not show that and there's no other way for me to know apart from calling the clerk. TIA
