Bad Faith Landlord

Location: North Texas My landlord withheld my deposit with-out sending an itemized list of why they withheld my deposit. I moved out July 15 and it’s now August 24 and they’ve ignored all attempted contact, including a formal dispute of charges and the escalation email. I’m pretty sure under Texas law that means they are acting in bad faith and required to pay both a fine and attorney fees. Would it be worth it to file something in small claims court? They were pretty horrible landlords and caused a bunch of issues: unresolved leaks that caused mold growth, neighbors that fired a gun into my apartment but then were not evicted, as well as a fridge that didn’t work for 6 months.
