Former Company Threatening to file charges

I was recently let go from a company that has asked for the return of a laptop. The company still owes me money which has been documented and sent to company. They replied with a non-disclosure agreement that they want me to sign. I would rather not since I do not trust the company. Now he company is threatening to file theft charges if I do not return. What should I do? They owe me around $2,500. Location: Louisiana
