House Deed

I bought a house a couple of months before I married my husband, so when the deed and mortgage were done, it was all in my maiden name. Recently, I had a health scare, and it lit a fire under my butt to fix that paperwork stuff. In the event of something happening to me, I want my husband and kids to be able to live in our house so I need to get him added to the deed. We used VA, so does he have to be on the mortgage?
