Location: Ohio A family member was involved in an accident while driving a vehicle that did not have active insurance. The driver only had a permit and received tickets related to the accident. There were no injuries, and there is a court date coming up for the tickets given. The vehicle owner received a letter from a subrogation company representing Allstate requesting around $17,000 for damages and asking the BMV to suspend the driving privileges of both the driver and owner however the driver only has a permit. The letter claims the driver was responsible, but the police report does not clearly state fault. This appears to be a subrogation request, not a court judgment. What are the best next steps? Can claims like this be negotiated? Should an attorney be involved for the court date or insurance claim? Any advice from people who have dealt with Ohio uninsured accidents would be appreciated.
