Location: Washington D.C. So, I am purchasing a 4 unit and moving into one of the units. It currently has rent control on it, and I can apply for a small landlord exemption which I will be doing. currently 2 units are vacant, and 2 are occupied. If I am interpreting this correctly, there is an exemption to rent control, found in D.C. Official Code § 42–3502.05 Section A, subsection 1 " rent is federally or District-subsidized" So currently, the property has rent control with max of 1255. to my understanding, a HCVP ( section 8 tenant) would pay more, and thus I would be able to be paid more if I allowed a voucher tenant to occupy the unit? am I interpreting the legalese correctly?
