Need help with carpet replacement dispute.

Location: South Carolina I recently moved out of my apartment. My landlord sent me an e-mail claiming that I fully responsible for replacing carpet that went beyond normal wear and tear. Although I am willing to pay for some of the replacement cost, I do not think that I should be on the hook to pay the full cost of the carpet. It was 4 years old and it had a 5 year life span. Am I wrong?
