Trying to obtain a police report

Location: Colorado I (35f) had to call the police on my son's father (47m) for stealing and ingesting my son's (13m) Ritalin. He was charged for a drug misdemeanor and has to appear in court. Like it says above-mentioned, I am trying to obtain the police report of the arrest. I contacted the police report records, had all the correct information and documents and I was met with the following statement: "A public criminal record does not exist with respect to the defendant." They encouraged me to contact either the county or municipal courts. What does this mean and what do I do? Thank you
