The culture I employ in my practice is distinctive. Instead of hierarchy, I work in an environment where cooperation with my clients is key. Because I operate without layers of bureaucracy, I maintain a direct communication and close working relationship with my clients.. My flexibility enables me to assemble solutions to address your legal needs efficiently and effectively. My connection with other attorneys in the Anchorage legal community offers the strength and depth of a large firm, without sacrificing the responsiveness and personal service you receive from a solo practitioner.. On a daily basis, I achieve excellence in the practice of law, emphasizing practical problem solving, high-quality legal work, and cost-effective management of client matters. I endeavor to be a skilled client counselor as well as a lawyer. My approach to the practice and my commitment to quality of life combine to create a stimulating, informal, and ethical work environment. I take my work seriously, but not myself.

I decided to become a lawyer while working for my father's law firm when I was in high school. I watched my father try cases, and decided that I wanted to become a trial attorney. In 1984 I spent a year abroad, studying at the Gymnasium Mussenredder in Hamburg, Germany.. I graduated from the University at Santa Barbara in 1985 with Honors in History and German Literature. I obtained my law degree in 1991 from McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento, California. In 1992, I left California, and moved to Alaska. When I arrived in Alaska, I clerked for a Superior Court Judge and then worked as a public defender for approximately 5 years. I opened my own law firm and limited my practice to the areas of criminal defense, family law, and personal injury.. On June 20, 2011, I was featured as co-counsel on 48 Hours television program, CBS murder of Bonnie Craig, a 17 year-old cold case.
