Stephen J.P. Kupiszewski (prefers, Steve) was born in Lake Whales, Florida. He came to Arizona in 1981 as an All-American swimmer on a swimming scholarship to Arizona State University. He was team captain for the 1984-85 season. In 1986 he graduated with his B.S. in business. Like his father, he attended Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama graduating in December of 1989. After a brief solo practice, Stephen became an Assistant Attorney General in 1991 working in the Protective Services Section of the Arizona Attorney General's Office.  In 1997 he Joined Tielborg, Sanders & Parks practicing in the area of medical malpractice and insurance defense cases. Steve returned to juvenile court with the Legal Defender’s Office in December of 1998, focusing his practice and representing parents on severance and dependency cases against the State of Arizona.. Steve was appointed to the superior court bench as a Commissioner and began his career as a Judicial Officer on August 3, 2003. Through the rotation process, Steve presided over Criminal, Family, Probate, Juvenile, Mental Health, Tax and Civil calendars. He has retired from his last rotation on a blended calendar serving Probate and Family Court cases on March 29, 2013. Tom started his practice in 1981 at Treon, Warnicke, Dann & Roush of Phoenix (after having been a law clerk there for two years) in the commercial practice section, where he was trained in litigation and trial skills by two former Maricopa County Superior Court judges. He started what became a substantial bankruptcy practice in 1982 when he represented Clifford Wolfswinkel in bankruptcy court in his dispute with his brothers. After that, he continued doing work in the bankruptcy court in several commercial cases.. Tom left the Treon firm in 1987 to practice in Chandler as Littler & Miller for a short time before forming Warnicke & Littler, P.L.C. in 1989 to perform the bankruptcy examination of Charlie Keating’s American Continental Corporation.. After twenty three years with his own firm, he joined the Las Vegas firm of Gordon Silver in March of 2010 to open and build its first Arizona office. He left Gordon Silver in August, 2013 to practice as a sole practitioner in order to provide less expensive and more personal service to his clients.. Tom was a judge pro tem of the Maricopa County Superior Court presiding over mediations and jury trials for fifteen years.. --. Personal Life. Tom was born in Buffalo, New York on October 10, 1954. He moved to Phoenix with his family in 1957.  He went to grade school in west Phoenix and graduated from West Phoenix High School in 1972.  He played the drums in both grade school and in the marching band at West High.  Tom obtained his Bachelor of Science degree, magna cum laude, in General Business Administration from the ASU College of Business in 1978 and graduated from the Arizona State University School of Law in 1981.  In law school he was on the Moot Court Board, was a member of the Order of the Coif, and participated every year as a writer and actor in the annual Law Follies. Tom now resides in Tempe.. Tom is married and has three children. His daughter, who graduated from the University of Southern California (English; Creative Writing) and Kings College, London (English Literature) is an editor at St. Martin’s Press in New York City; his son graduated from New York University (Dramatic Writing) and is a writer-producer living in New York City. His fourteen-year-old daughter was adopted from China and attends Basis Ahwatukee.. In his free time, Tom runs half marathons (ten so far), plays the drums (drum set in the basement), reads all kinds of literature – especially biographies, history and politics – and travels the world.
