Location: California I'm re-reading my divorce settlement agreement and it says this about child support: "Payments shall begin on *date* and shall continue until further orders of the court, or until said child(ren) marries, dies, or is emancipated, reaches the age of 19, or reaches 18 and is not a full-time high-school student and not self-supporting, whichever occurs first." My kids are full-time college students and are not self-supporting. They are 18 and 20. Does this mean that child support payments were supposed to continue until they turned 19? Or should they have stopped at 18 because they finished high school before their 18th birthday?

Posting for someone close to me because we’re not sure what the best move is. He was recently injured while working in California. He was performing a physical job when a piece of work equipment struck him around the head/ear area. The injury was significant enough that he went to the ER and needed treatment. He has also had some concerning symptoms afterward and has had to miss work while recovering. The employer knew the injury happened at work. What makes the situation more concerning is that immediately after it happened, there were comments made about removing work clothing/not making it obvious that the injury happened while working. There is evidence/documentation of some of these conversations. Since then, his boss has been repeatedly pressuring him to come back to work even though he is still recovering. The boss has made comments along the lines of, “You need to come to work or I’ll replace you.” He hasn’t officially filed a workers’ comp claim yet. He is basically stuck between two options in his mind: Not filing workers’ comp and hoping his boss/company will privately cover his medical expenses, missed work, and compensate him for the injury. Filing workers’ comp, but he’s scared that his employer will replace/fire him or make things difficult for him afterward. He’s also considering going back to work because he’s afraid of losing the job. He seems to think that if he returns to work, then he shouldn’t/can’t file workers’ comp anymore. Location: California I recently moved out of my former roommate's apartment. I was not on the lease nor does the agreement he typed up and made me sign have a clause that says I must pay him. I'm looking to understand how pet custody decisions are made in divorce proceedings in California. I have read that under some newer laws in California, pets are not simply considered as property and decisions regarding their custody, shared or otherwise, are made with the animal's best interest in mind. Is there anyone with experience or insight into how that sort of decision is made in reality and how they actually land? To give background, I am currently going through a divorce and custody of our dog is the most contentious issue between my wife and I. We adopted her before we married, so in terms of the "property" law, I expect that the dog belongs to my wife as her name is on the pet license. However, I was responsible for things like health insurance and took her to more than half of her vet visits (not 100% sure, but I can dig up vet and payment records if necessary). As far as time to meet our dog's needs through walks, training, or other engagement, I've been the most available. For the roughly 5 years that we've had our dog, my job has allowed me to work remotely and I've only recently had to commute into my office two days a week for the last couple of months.
