I began my legal career in San Diego where I practiced criminal law, civil litigation, and personal injury.  After a very successful practice there for 17 years, my family and I moved to Fresno, California, in 1995.  Since that time, I have practiced exclusively criminal law. First of all, although his name is "Mark Daniel", Mr. Melnick is known to his friends as simply "Dan" (it's a long story).Dan Melnick was born in Santa Monica, California and he grew up in the San Fernando Valley. After high school he got a job working for United Artists as a production assistant and spent nearly a year in Yugoslavia making (and appearing in) the movie Fiddler on the Roof. Upon his return to the U.S. Dan attended UCLA and graduated in 1975. Following his graduation from UCLA he went to work helping a family friend finish building a 60 foot cement sail boat and helped him sail it to Hawaii during the summer of 1975. With 2500 miles and 3 months of sailing behind him Dan returned and  attended Law School at the University of San Fernando Valley School of law, graduating in 1978. During his years in college and law school he worked and supported himself as a night crew and deli clerk at Ralphs Grocery store in Sherman Oaks. My experience as a prosecutor and as a private practitioner enables me to understand both sides of an issue and to use that understanding for the benefit of my clients.  I understand the importance of fair and effective law enforcement; I also know that constitutional rights are critical, and believe these rights must be protected for the community to remain strong.. I have lived and worked in Alameda County for nearly thirty years. I am a citizen, and a business owner. My wife is a physician at Kaiser Hospital, in Oakland. My sister and her husband live in Piedmont and are both attorneys, each practicing in Alameda County. My uncle, a retired college professor and my aunt live in Berkeley. My uncle served on the Alameda County Grand Jury.

Max Gorby graduated with honors from the University of Southern California in 1995.  He then received his law degree from Suffolk University Law School in Boston, MA in 1998.  It was there that he volunteered his time working in the prosecutors office to learn how they prosecute DUI's.  Once he learned the strategies of the state to prosecute DUI's, he returned to Los Angeles and applied those same strategies to successfully defend Drunk Driving cases in Los Angeles..
