Jeff has successfully resolved cases turned down by other attorneys, including a $2.25 million settlement against a Chicago hospital for failure to timely diagnose and treat an infection in a five-year-old boy who was recovering from leukemia; a $2 million settlement for the death of a 62-year-old husband and father for failure to diagnose a cardiac tamponade; a $300,000 settlement for a woman who suffered irritable bowel syndrome and other complications from a laparoscopy; and a $975,000 settlement for a woman who suffered right ulnar nerve injury during a cardiac ablation (notably, Mr. Martin was asked to represent the woman after she served on the jury for one of his medical malpractice trials).. Accompanied by a physically disabled client, Jeff met with Illinois legislators in Springfield to demonstrate the injustice of tort reform.. He has served on the Institutional Review Board at Children’s Memorial Hospital, two terms on the Arlington Heights Plan Commission (including Chairman of its Ordinance Review Subcommittee), and on the Board of Directors of a nonprofit organization assisting families living in poverty.
