I suggest immigrants and their friends and employers looking for counsel review the government websites, now with a wealth of information, seek advice only from members of professional legal associations, and be skeptical of stories and advice from friends, neighbors, and notarios. All contact with a lawyer is confidential, even if the lawyer is not paid or retained. Immigrants should be prepared to be candid about all entries into the U.S., prior use of counsel, applications filed, and law enforcement encounters.. In 1991 a represntative of Amnesty International reached out to me and said there were few immigration lawyers in Kentucky to assist with pressing needs. I quickly found that I loved all aspects of immigration law , whether family, business, deportation defense, or human rights. What could be a better oppotunity for a lawyer than to have a case where there are only winners, no losers, at the end of the day.. Since 1991 I have represented, or interviewed (as an immigration officer), nationals of 100 countries, been employed as an adjunct professor of immigration law at Louis D Brandeis School of Law, lobbied Congress on Capitol Hill, and lectured at bar association meetings.. For the duration of 2019, we are devoting most of our attention to those who have TPS and seek permanent residence, or permanent residents seeking naturalization, or employers and investors. We may also be assisting with amicus briefs in important litigation.

1019 South Fourth Street , Louisville , Kentucky 40203
Practice Areas: Immigration
My practice focuses on immigration law. I am passionate about assiting families and employees in gaining immigration status, asylum seekers avoiding persecution and children reuniting with families.. I became interested in immigration law as a participant in the University of Louisville Immigration Law Clinic. This experience enabled me to win the New York University Law School’s Immigration Moot Court Competition. More recently, I spent several months in Central America working with the Human Rights Commission of Belize, studying Spanish and traveling widely throughout the region. Through these experiences I committed myself to assisting individuals in navigating the complex immigration system.. While in law school I won the Pirtle-Washer Oral Advocacy Competition and competed in the National Moot Court Competition at the Fourth Circuit Federal Court of Appeals. As a Marshall-Brennan Fellow I taught a civil liberties course for high school seniors. I also served as an IOLTA Fellow, President of the International Law Society, published editor of the Journal of Law and Education and I received the Robert C. Jayes Memorial Award for Humanitarian and Civic Involvement.. I practiced criminal defense for nearly three years before focusing exclusively on immigration law. I litigated numerous misdemeanors and felonies including several homicides and achieved multiple acquittals through jury verdict. I received the Walker Award for excellence in a felony jury trial where the client faced up to life in prison if convicted.
