Lee founded The Law Office of A. Lee Shaw, PLLC, to focus his practice on business law, healthcare policy and bioethics, and elder law. Lee also accepts a limited number of personal injury actions. Before practicing law, Lee enjoyed a long career as an insurance executive. As a veteran of the US Navy, Lee also understands the importance of service and the unique challenges veterans face working through the often complex world of the veterans' administration. As a father of two special needs children, Lee learned about special needs planning first hand, without having the benefit of legal education. Along the way, he learned how little information is readily available and how confusing special needs planning can be.. Lee completed his undergraduate education at Penn State, where he graduated with a 4.0-grade point average and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa national honor society. After that, he completed a Master of Business Administration at Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania and then a Juris Doctor at the University of Louisville, where he graduated with honors. Lee was an active member of the academic community and served in various campus organization leadership positions.. Lee has served as a clerk for the Kentucky Court of Appeals and completed two internships with the Legal Aid Society. He also clerked for a small law firm. Upon graduation, Lee passed the Bar exam in both Indiana and Kentucky. He began his formal practice of law as an attorney for the Indiana Department of Child Services. As a child services attorney, Lee was involved in litigating complex family law matters and administrative proceedings.. Lee is an active member of both the Indiana and Kentucky Bar Associations. He also holds membership in the Solo Practice, Wills Estates and Trusts Section, and Family Law Section of the Bar. Lee is also a member of the Kentucky Justice Association, Louisville Bar Association.. Lee is a member of Congregation Adath Jeshurun and enjoys spending time with his children and granddaughter as they discover new things in his spare time. His family enjoys traveling both domestically and internationally and experiencing new cultures.

I have been practicing in the estate planning area since 1982. I have an undergraduate degree in accounting, so I have always been interested in the tax planning aspects of estate planning, as well as working with individuals. I have worked in virtually all phases of estate planning, including the preparation of comperehensive (and often complex) estate plans, including working with owners of closely held businesses, nonprofit organizations, professionals, and a great variety of interesting people. Each family situation presents unique opportunities (and often challenges) and I try to approach each client as if they were a member of my own family.. With the birth (adoption) of my two special needs children in the early 1990's, I became very interested in planning for special needs children. This work has enabled me to not only help my clients, but to also learn from them! Together we work to solve the individual special needs planning situation in order to maximize total resources available to the special needs individual. This includes maximimizing government benefits such as Social Security and Medicaid, arranging appropriate Trustee and advisory roles, identifying service-providers who may be able to help the individual in his or her special situation, providing for maximum flexibility for unforseen circumstances, etc. I prepare estate plans for clients with special needs loved ones (so called "third party" special needs trusts), as well "first party" special needs trusts for disabled individuals who may have received an unplanned inheritance, a lawuit settlement, etc. Without the use of a special needs trust, the disabled person may lose his or her benefits and we can avoid that outcome in the vast majority of cases.. My practice if very personalized and has brought me great personal and professional satisfaction for well over 30 years.

Cheryl concentrates her practice on elder law and asset protection, combining traditional estate and gift planning with today's elder estate planning tools to minimize the financial impact of elder care, rehab, and long-term nursing home costs. Working all throughout the state of Kentucky, she prepares irrevocable asset protection trusts, revocable living trusts, wills, durable power of attorney (financial and medical surrogacy), and living wills. For many individuals and families, an asset protection trust is an essential component of an elder estate plan to preserve the tradition of passing down an inheritable asset. Cheryl also prepares gun trusts to give firearms owners peace of mind related to inheritance or transfer of their property.

I handle each case individually because it is personal for each client. With over 25 years of actual practice experience concentrating primarily criminal/DUI defense and family/domestic law primarily in Northern Kentucky (Boone, Kenton and Campbell counties) as well as Cincinnati, Ohio.. In my posts here and on my blog, I often refer to my family since that is the most important piece of life. I feel that it is important to my practice and my ability to provide service that I maintain a separate family and social life away from the office. This realization helps me remember why I am a lawyer and how important family is to my clients.. Aside from law, I enjoy gym, running, golfing to get my mind away from the office. I also enjoy new restaurants and travel to the many islands, particularly in the Caribbean where I always read a new book or 3. I also regularly follow my son on the college track circuit.
