Location: Maryland Hey everyone, I’m 23 and living in Maryland, and I’m in a really messy situation. I’m trying to get my credit right so I can finally lease my own apartment when I move out of state, but I just hit a massive wall. The Background: When I was 18, my aunt (who I currently live with) used my Social Security Number to open a residential utility account in my name without me knowing. I only found out about this two months ago when debt collectors started contacting my phone. Long story short, the account defaulted, got charged off, and was sold to a third-party collection agency. It's sitting there with an active balance of over $1,500, and it's completely tanking my FICO score. I could probably still get an apartment with my current score, but it'd probably be harder/higher deposit. Active utility collections are basically an automatic denial for most apartment communities around here, so I’m stressing out. The Current Situation: I confronted my aunt about it before it had hit collections. She admitted she did it and that the debt is hers and she would take care of it. She never took care of it and it went to collections yesterday. The problem is, she's currently going through a massive financial crisis with her own business being evicted, so she’s totally broke and stalling. Location: Maryland Hello everyone, I am currently renting a townhouse in Maryland and have been here since Janurary this year. When I first rented the place I had to do a virtual walk through for the move in inspection due to being across the country (military bs). Now that me and my wife have been here it has been a hell hole. The place is owned by a private owner, who uses the local property management company to handle the property. We have not met the owner. When we moved in I finally inspected everything myself, the railings going up the stairs are falling off the walls, the A/C doesn't reach the 3rd floor, we had water leaking through one spare rooms window and all they did was put some caulk inside to stop it from falling on the carpet (so where's the water going now?), the front doors handle is falling apart from the inside, I cant lock the door using the handle and the screws holding it in have no wood to screw into so they constantly tear into the door jam and i can only lock it by the dead bolt. The spigot outside didn't work at first. Come to find out it was a busted pipe in the wall, they fixed the pipe but left the holes in the drywall covered with plastic trash bags. Location: Maryland last year some roommates and i signed a lease for a property, we requested a one year lease and jumped through all the neccesary hoops to get everything in place, we moved in on aug 1st and assumed the lease would last for one calander year Fast forward to this past week when we go to vacate the property that the landlord says were still responsible for another month of rent because we didnt notify them three months prior that we were vacating. (one of my roommates let them know we wouldnt be renewing on may 20th) We look back in the lease and find a clause that requires either party to notify the other if the lease will not be renewed, requiring 90days notice, this was not explained to us and never mentioned, we never thought to ask becuase we only wanted a one year lease! My question is, do i have any recourse here or am i in the wrong? Ive talked to the property management company and they say were still responsible for the month of rent.

Location: Maryland This isn't the most serious thing, it's just been a frustration that compounds when I think about how loony it feels to have someone who isn't a warden or headmaster dictate when it's possible for me to gather packages delivered to my house. It's happened twice this week already, for things which I can do without, but in the past I've had medication I needed locked behind that door overnight and other time-sensitive things. The title's fairly self-explanatory, but there are some notes I thought I should add: The package room itself has a lock which all residents have fobs to beep into. The hallway leading to the package room has two other doors, one leading to a locked employee bathroom, and the other leading to the leasing/manager office which also has its own lock. I've lived here for three years and that hallway door was never locked. She installed a padlock on the door and the latch tongue to hold it when she arrived. Now the padlock is just hanging there like one of those bullet cameras just there to scare people, but the door is locked by keys in bolts. She is the only white lady who has ever owned my very diverse building. A lot of landlords in my city come from the suburbs, and that is more her energy than the last ownership. She doesn't say hello when I do if we encounter each other in the lobby, and seems almost afraid of me.…
