My philosophy on the practice of law is that it is important to explain the law to a client in an easily understandable way and to educate them about their options. Someone can only make the proper decisions about how best to protect their businesses and formulate the best estate plan by having the knowledge necessary to make those important decisions. I treat my clients the way that I want to be treated, which is to be given the information and taught what I need to know so that I can make my own decisions about what is right for my business and my family. Being an attorney should be comparable to being an educator of the law and informing the community about what they need to know to resolve their legal needs.

Scott Keifer founded St. Louis Estate Planning to focus exclusively on helping clients establish quality and cost-effective plans. “When I was young I accompanied my parents on their visit to an estate planning attorney in downtown St. Louis. I was struck by the fancy law office in the tall building, the wood paneled walls in the conference room and windows overlooking other expensive buildings. I wondered how much my parents were paying to support all of this overhead. I thought, why can’t all of this overhead be reduced and the cost savings passed along to hard working people like my parents." This thought is the basis of St. Louis Estate Planning.. Not working at a big law firm gives Scott the ability to give his clients better service and a professional work product without all of the unnecessary overhead. Scott spends more time with his clients than most other attorneys, doesn’t sell them solutions they don’t need, and does so at about half of the cost. Scott graduated from Truman State University with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and passed the Missouri Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam in 1994. In 1997 Scott graduated from University of Missouri School of Law and passed the Missouri Bar.. During law school, Scott worked as an unpaid intern for a Magistrate with the United States District Court while also working a blue-collar construction job at Extel Communications. After passing the Missouri Bar, Scott accepted a management position at Extel and later became a co-owner. For more than 17 years, Scott used his accounting and law degrees as a foundation for his role in handling finances, taxes, contract management, legal disputes, human resources, and state and federal legal compliance.. In 2015 Scott decided to focus exclusively on estate planning and opened St. Louis Estate Planning. Working from his office in southwest St. Louis County, he provides estate planning consultation and solutions to clients within a 2 hour drive of St. Louis.. Scott and his wife, Claire, have been married since 2002 and have two daughters and one son. They live in South St. Louis County and are members of St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church. Scott enjoys cheering his kids on at their athletic events, as well as volunteering for the Boy Scouts. Scott’s (non-family related) highlight each year is taking a backpacking trip with his life-long friends on amazing trails in Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, California, and Utah.

Planning Kills Anxiety!. We spend a lot of time educating and helping our clients plan tailored estate strategies.. First, We begin with education. Explaining in plain English, or as close as we can, the various tools and resources we'll use to design a plan. With the goal of giving you enough information to make an educated decision when we make our recommendations on the design of your plan.. Then, we listen and ask questions. We want to know about you, your family, your goals, your hopes, your expectations, and your personality. We ask questions to dig deeper and to explore the "what if's" that can sometimes throw wrenches into the best of plans.. Lastly, we make our recommendations and begin to design the plan of your choice. While most of our clients' follow our recommendations, sometimes you may want to take a more risky approach or a more defined approach than what we recommended. That is great! At the end of the day, our core belief is that we design the plan our client wants... because, the bottom line is, it is your plan, not ours.. In addition to estate planning (wills, trusts, powers of attorney, beneficiary deeds, medical directives, etc.), we also assist clients with estate administration. Usually, estate administration means either going through the probate process in the county courts, or managing the administration of a Trust. These processes can be scary for someone who has never had to deal with them before. So, we act as a guide through the process. Helping you understand the whats and hows; as well as drafting required legal documents to protect you from liabilities that can arise during the respective process.. We're here to help, give us a call if you need help.
