Matthew Weinick is an employment lawyer on Long Island, New York. Matt is a litigator who is not afraid of the courtroom and since the beginning of his career, he has been fighting for his clients’ rights before Federal and State Court judges and administrative law judges. He has tried employment discrimination and retaliation cases before juries in Federal Court, represents clients at mediation and arbitration, and has argued appeals before the Second Circuit Court of Appeals and the New York Appellate Divisions, First and Second Departments. Matt’s success has been recognized for six consecutive years by Super Lawyers Magazine which listed him as a Rising Star from 2012-2017, a recognition reserved for less than 2.5 percent of the lawyers in the state. A United States Magistrate Judge has described Matt as an “experienced attorney . . . primarily in employment litigation.” The Judge further commented that Matt’s court submissions were “detailed, thorough, and accurate.”. In addition to employment cases, Matt is experienced in handling other complex litigation matters. For example, Matt represented a beneficiary in a dispute related to the administration of the estate of the “godfather of rap,” he represented a party in a lawsuit arising, in part, from the investment in and subsequent bankruptcy of a large Las Vegas casino/hotel, and he defended the owner of an automobile dealership in a lawsuit contesting the rightful ownership of the business.. Matt not only serves his clients, but he serves the legal community, as well. He has published articles in the Nassau County Bar Association’s newspaper about employment law, he has taught continuing legal education classes about employment law, and he instructs a course at Hofstra Law School, which appointed Matt as a Guest Lecturer in 2016. Matt is frequently called upon by other lawyers for strategic or legal advice and he was hired by another law firm specifically to argue an appeal at the Appellate Division, Second Department.. Before partnering with Pete, Matt was a senior associate at a preeminent Long Island employment discrimination firm where he was trusted with his own caseload and was frequently assigned to work on the firm’s most complex matters. Matt also served as a Nassau County Deputy County Attorney, representing the County and its employees in civil rights actions.. Matt graduated cum laude from Hofstra University School of Law. At Hofstra, Matt served as Notes and Comments Editor of the Hofstra Labor and Employment Law Journal and published an article about workers’ rights. He also interned for United States District Judge Denis R. Hurley.

Matt founded the firm and assembled our team based on his belief that traditional law firms do not adequately serve the business community. Matt put together a team of seasoned attorneys who focus on value above all. Indeed, the groundswell of entrepreneurs bringing new products and services to market has created a space for the unconventional practice of law. The bottom line is that the business landscape has changed dramatically – from the growing list of innovative businesses to the surge in non-traditional crowdfunding opportunities – the business world requires more than what the traditional law office can offer. This demand was the impetus for our flagship In-House Counsel Experience.. Before starting the Firm, Matt worked at one of the Capital District’s more notable law firms. There, he focused on representing large national and regional clients with a variety of business and litigation matters including highly complex commercial disputes, corporate governance matters, and regulatory compliance.

Matthew Van Vessem is a partner in Goldberg Segalla's Employment and Labor Practice Group. He concentrates his practice in the areas of labor and employment litigation, wage and hour litigation, employee discipline, collective bargaining, New York State Education Law, and municipal law.. Matt represents private and public sector clients — including many of the largest employers in Western New York — in administrative and legal proceedings, including labor arbitrations, agency hearings, and state and federal court litigation. These clients include numerous cities, towns, and other municipalities; school districts and boards of education; and police and fire departments, hospitals, and transit authorities.. Matt litigates and counsels clients through matters involving discipline, termination, health insurance, overtime, alleged discrimination, and grievances of all varieties. He has litigated matters involving the New York State Civil Service Law and New York State General Municipal Law Section 207-c, as well as collective actions under the Federal Labor Standards Act ranging from four to 200 employee-plaintiffs. Matt regularly resolves matters before the New York State Public Employment Relations Board (PERB), the New York State Division of Human Rights (DHR), and the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). He is also known for his adept handling of the arbitration of collective bargaining disputes and other sensitive employment and labor, education, and municipal matters — as, for example, disputes involving Education Law 3020-a, the statutory proceeding by which a school district disciplines a tenured teacher or administrator. Several times Matt has successfully litigated unsettled matters of employment and labor, civil rights, and municipal law, attaining outcomes and establishing case law favorable to his clients. Matt also has extensive appellate court experience, including Article 78 appeals, and has represented municipalities before the New York State Court of Appeals.. While providing clients with trial and appellate representation for both standard disputes and unusual, unexpected situations, Matt dedicates at least 50 percent of his practice to offering daily advice and counsel to clients on a wide range of employment and labor, civil rights, and municipal law and liability matters. He has nearly 20 years of experience counseling employers with regard to challenged associated with unions and employees who work as uniformed personnel, particularly police and fire. He has also lectured and written on a number of topics of particular interest to municipalities, including the application of the Fair Labor Standards Act to municipal employers and the special rules applicable to public sector police and fire employees.. Before entering private practice, Matt was assistant corporation counsel for the City of Buffalo.. Representative Matters

Practice Areas: Speeding & Traffic Ticket
My goal is to represent clients charged with violations of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law as ethically and professionally as possible, and in a manner which meets and exceeds their expectations as much as the law and the ethics code will allow. I represent people who have received speeding and basically any other kind of traffic tickets/violations, people who have suffered a driver's license suspension, people charged with non-felony DWI/DWAI or other Vehicle and Traffic misdemeanors, and people who are charged with almost any other Vehicle and Traffic Law infraction incurred anywhere in New York State, except for New York City. I serve as the friendly and attentive counselor at law to both my clients and my colleagues, making myself as available as possible to all inquiries, and responding to such inquiries with the promptness, courtesy, respect and professionalism that I would expect if I were in the inquirer's position. As I am aware of the financial difficulty that so many people are suffering right now, I also strive to charge legal fees, for my services, that are VERY competitive and reasonable. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns, or other issues, at my e-mail address: or on my cell phone:, anytime, day or night, week day or weekend.
