One of the "Top Attorneys of North America, 2016", selected by Who's Who.. I have concentrated my law practice in the areas of Social Security Disability, Supplemental Security Income Disability, Railroad Retirement Disability, and disability pension claims with the New York State and Local Employees Retirement System (state and municipal employee pensions including Teachers, Police and Fire, and Corrections Officers).. I have successfully represented thousands of clients, in claims for benefits from the initial level of claim up to the U.S. Court of Appeals. (see Poole v. Railroad Retirement Board, 905 F.2d 654, 2d.Cir. 1990). I also represent clients in continuing disability reviews and defending against Social Security claims of disability cessation and overpayment.. I am a former Social Security Disability Analyst, so I know how claims are adjudicated at the initial level. I am also a former Social Security Claims Representative, so I know how claims are calculated and paid. I am very familiar with Workers Compensation offset issues - I gave the seminar on this subject to the Erie County Bar Association.. It has been my pleasure to mentor and assist other attorneys practicing in these fields of law, and to consult with attorneys handling related issues such as personal injury and Workers Compensation lump sum settlements..

"I am passionate about my work and my practice. I understand and can relate to our client’s disability because I suffered through Stage 2 cancer. I feel compassion for disabled people having experienced hard times and the dark reality of being unable to support oneself due to illness. It has now been 7 years for me and I survived cancer!" - Sharmine Persaud

I have been an attorney for 20 years. For the first 18 years I worked in a very high volume firm handling hundreds of cases at a time. My practice has included Social Security Disabiity matters from application,to appeals in Federal District Court, and Bankruptcy matters including Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 cases for individuals and small businesses. I have also handled Long Term Disability Matters under ERISA abd debt settlment matters. I sucessfully helped thousands of individuals with their disability and financial issues during that time.. In February, 2014, I opened my own law practice and by doing so was able to handle and much smaller caseload and give my clients the personal attention that they deserve. I have found a much greater sense of satisfaction and can truly enjoy the practice of law.. My clients very often tell me that I am not like other attorneys because they feel very comfortable talking to me, they know that I care about their situation and they know that I am the person personally working on their case.. With a smaller practice, I am able to provide flexibile appointment times in person. With a smaller practice, I can provide quick efficient and compassionate service to those with financial difficulties. Finally, with a smaller practice, I can charge more affordable fees because I can obtain my clients by word of mouth and referrals from attorneys and prior clients, rather than television commercials.. If you are unable to work because of a disability or are facing financial difficulties, please call me for a free consultation.
