A few days ago, I was stopped by an NYPD officer after entering the subway without successfully paying the fare. My Apple Pay transit payment was not working properly that day, and I also did not have my wallet or physical ID with me. I ended up entering behind my friend. My friend had successfully paid and has a payment record, but I did not. I was fully cooperative with the officer. I did not run, resist, or argue. I eventually showed her a photo of my ID on my phone, and she verified my information. The officer asked whether I had received a ticket before. I told her honestly that I had one prior public consumption of alcohol ticket from 2023. It was a $25 fine for drinking beer in a public park, which I paid online immediately. That is my only prior legal violation. The officer then issued me a Desk Appearance Ticket (DAT) for Transit Theft of Services and told me that I need to appear in Criminal Court. Location: NYC I’m looking for advice from attorneys or anyone familiar with New York premises liability cases. A few weeks ago, I slipped and fell inside a Hilton in New York City after walking through water that had leaked from the ceiling. After I fell, hotel staff placed a bucket under the leak. The incident was reported immediately, and hotel management created an internal incident report. (No sign & i have video of waitress/server saying she had radio’d about leak with no response and acknowledging this has been location of previous leak) Since then: I went to urgent care the same day. I’ve had ongoing knee and shoulder pain. My knee MRI confirmed a torn medial meniscus and other knee findings. physical therapy for my shoulder starts 8/4 and hopefully i get a diagnosis soon. The fall has affected my ability to exercise, run, and do many activities I normally enjoy. I had floor tickets to Jay Z all 3 nights at Yankee stadium and wasn’t able to attend nights 2 and 3 due to the pain i was in after suffering through night 1. I recently started a new job that may require physical activity, and I’m concerned about how these injuries could affect my work. Location: New York I was terminated yesterday under the guise of "failure to grasp basic concepts." Without going into any specific details, my job that I started two months ago had a lot of small, moving parts. But let's just say that this is one of their primary things to tackle. Earlier this year, I was viciously assaulted by my ex, where he had cut up my arm, and I called the police and filed an order of protection against him, which was granted. When the police came over, they took photographs of my injured arm, and they called the ambulance to treat me. I declined going to the hospital because I did not think that I needed to because I wasn’t sure what they could even do with these cuts because they were pretty deep but I figured they probably did not require stitches so I did not go to the hospital. Because I did not go to the hospital and get a doctors note, New York State literally charged my ex with attempted assault in the third- degree rather than actual assault – the police officer told me today that because I did not go to the hospital to get my injuries checked out, I can’t do anything about this and I can’t have him charged with assault.
