Don't believe them. We are here because we didn't possibly fathom that they would try to make us captive to their business plan.. If you are a lawyer and thinking about "claiming your profile" please contact me or others who have negative views of Avvo to get the flipside of the rosy, shiny picture Avvo will paint for you. I'm sure this service has value to some lawyers. But for those of us to whom it does not it is unconscionable to refuse to let us delete the profile. In my case the only reason I claimed my profile was because Avvo was displaying an incorrect address and incorrect phone number for me and I wanted that profile off the net so people trying to find me wouldn't be mislead.
