When Darrell completed his education, Catherine went to back to school and obtained a degree in biology from South Methodist University. It was her intention to go to medical school. As the wife of a minister, she saw the many problems facing the members of her husband's congregation and felt she could make a bigger difference in people's lives by earning a law degree.. Catherine attended Southern Methodist University Law School where she participated in the political asylum clinic. There she was able to work with and assist individuals escaping political and religious persecution. This work fit perfectly with her desire to make a difference in the lives of individuals..
