Dywona Vantree-Keller

Firm: Holomb Law, P.C.
501 Village Avenue , Yorktown , Virginia 23693
Practice Areas: Divorce & Separation
I count motherhood as my greatest accomplishment, and I prefer the titles “Dance Mom,” “Cheer Mom, “and “Volleyball Mom” to “Esquire.” God has entrusted my husband and me with two amazing daughters, and I never wanted to miss a moment of the precious years of childhood. So for the past eighteen years, I have been a Solo Practitioner operating as DVKLAW. I’ve made every awards assembly, science fair, sporting event, and recital, and I have never missed an opportunity to chaperone a field trip or to serve as “Room Mom” or ‘Team Mom.” Whew!. But now that my children are older, and I’m more of a “smother” than a “mother,” I thought it was time to do the thing that Wayne and I have talked about doing for years now – merging our firms. I am so excited for the merger DVKLAW and Holcomb Law!. I have practiced law for over twenty-five years. My primary practice areas are criminal defense and family law. I spent six years honing my trial skills as a prosecutor for the City of Hampton, and I am regarded as a specialist in juvenile criminal defense. I have served as Special Counsel for the Division of Child Support Enforcement, and I can help you navigate Virginia’s complex child support provisions and safeguard your financial future. I have been certified by the Virginia Supreme Court to serve as Guardian ad litem for children since 2002, so I am well equipped to assist you in highly contested custody cases. I have received hundreds of hours of training in child development and family dynamics and disfunction, and I can help you protect your children.. Like many of you, Virginia is not my first home. I was born in Louisiana ‘round da’ bayou. I was born at a time when people who looked like me lived on “our side” of the levy and went to “our” schools. There were men in fancy suits who would come and sit in the living room with my Papa. They talked about two things, changing the “rules” that kept us separated by that levy and my MaDear’s peach cobbler. That cobbler was legendary!. I think I was about four years old when I learned that those men in fancy suits were called “lawyers,” and they had to go to a place called “court” to change those “rules.” I remember them talking about a lawyer named Thurgood Marshall who became the first African American Justice to serve on the United States Supreme Court in 1967, the year that I was born. I suppose that’s why I’ve never wanted to be anything other than a lawyer.. When I’m not lawyerin’, I’m screaming all of the lyrics to my favorite songs at a live concert. Music is my Prozac! And when I’m not chasing pop stars, I’m planning my next trip to Disney World. I’ve served my community for more than thirty years as a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. I am a proud alumna of The Alma Mater of a Nation, The College of William and Mary, and I continue to support the Tribe as a Class Ambassador for the Class of 1989. And as a 1992 graduate of Tulane University Law School, I know what it means to miss New Orleans. Roll Wave!. And like every woman lucky enough to have been born in Louisiana, I love to cook. My peach cobbler is not as legendary as MaDear’s, but I fix a mean pot of gumbo!

John Dooley

Firm: Holcomb Law
720 Mall Parkway , Newport News , Virginia 23602
Practice Areas: Divorce & Separation
I grew up in a Navy family, so I am a native of Ohio, and briefly lived in San Diego, California. After leaving the Navy, we moved to Chesapeake, Virginia where my Dad pastored a church, and my Mom continued her calling as a public school special education teacher. I attended James Madison University and received a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature. After graduating from JMU, I was privileged to teach 9th grade English in Newport News while studying nights for a Masters of Divinity degree. At the end of my third year of teaching, I felt called to change professions and directions entirely, mostly due to seeing the impact of the justice system on my students and their families, and I attended Regent University’s School of Law.. I enjoy playing music (drums, guitar, and vocals) for church worship teams, and I once had the pleasure to be part of a local jazz trio. I love literature, movies, history, games, and amateur carpentry and home projects.. I feel immensely privileged by the trust of my clients to help guide them through the decisions and circumstances involving the most precious and intimate portions of their lives. I am so pleased to be a part of the excellent team of professionals at Holcomb Law.

Frank Morrison

Firm: Phillips, Morrison, Johnson & Ferrell
828 Main Street , Lynchburg , Virginia 24504
Practice Areas: Divorce & Separation
Mr. Morrison is an effective and successful trial attorney with decades of practice focused exclusively on divorce, family, mediation, and collaboration. His philosophy, which he practices and espouses to the legal community, is that court is a last resort and that lawyers are first counselors at law and should attempt to facilitate and empower people to resolve their own disputes before resorting to litigation. He firmly believes that in order to be an effective negotiator, in all settings other than the collaborative process, an attorney must be an effective trial lawyer. Negotiation is a tool for dispute resolution that both the attorney and client must believe in as the most appropriate process for dispute resolution. Negotiation is never to be used as a refuge due to weakness or fear of trial. He also believes that the cornerstone of any effective attorney/client relationship or negotiation is the attorney’s ability to effectively communicate with clients and colleagues. Central to this idea is the development and facilitation of skills geared toward connecting with clients in order to work together as a team.

Francis Buck

211 E High St , Charlottesville , Virginia 22902
Practice Areas: Divorce & Separation
A graduate of UVA Law School, he began his career primarily engaged in commercial transactions, securities law, federal taxes, estate matters and real estate development. Due to the needs of the firm’s clients for representation in court, over the years his law practice has concentrated more heavily in trial work. Those early years provided a solid foundation in a variety of substantive areas of law that are very valuable in understanding the often complex issues arising in divorce cases and property and commercial litigation.. He has represented persons who have been injured in automobile and other types of accidents and is a member of the Virginia Trial Lawyers’ Association. For over thirty-five years, he has represented community owner associations in Central Virginia.. DISCLAIMER: CASE RESULTS DEPEND UPON A VARIETY OF FACTORS UNIQUE TO EACH CASE. RESULTS FROM PREVIOUS CASES DO NOT GUARANTEE SUCCESS OR A FAVORABLE RESULT IN FUTURE REPRESENTATION.. In addition to his trial practice, Mr. Buck is experienced in appellate litigation and has made many appearances before the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeals of Virginia. He was the successful attorney in the landmark cases of Leake v. Casati, which established the principle that partition suits are unaffected by municipal subdivision ordinances; Lake Monticello Owners’ Association v. Ritter, establishing the principle (later codified) that the common areas of property owners associations should not be taxed separately; LMSC v.SCC, establishing the rule that privately owned utilities should be taxed according to their fair market value, not original cost; and, reversing 20 years of divorce law cases, in Gilliam v. McGrady, regarding presumptions as to debt incurred during the marriage. As a result of the decisions in both Lake Monticello Owners’ Association v. Ritter and Gilliam v. McGrady, the General Assembly later changed the state law. He has argued cases before the appellate courts concerning personal injury claims, equitable distribution, spousal support, will construction, real estate and community owner associations.. Mr. Buck is the past president of the Charlottesville/Albemarle Bar Association, the former mayor of the City of Charlottesville (1980-1988), former president of Charlottesville Housing Improvement Program, Camp Holiday Trails, Horizon Institute for Policy Solutions and Ash Lawn Opera Foundation.
