I was born and raised in Montreal, Canada and attended college and law school in the United States pursuant to a student visa.  As a young immigration attorney, I married an American citizen processing my own applications for conditional and permanent residence.  Subsequently, I became a naturalized United States citizen.. Since 1992, I have assisted thousands of individuals and companies successfully navigate a complex and rather daunting immigration system.. Never forgetting my experience as an immigrant, my primary focus is providing each client with a clear understanding of the immigration steps that lie ahead as well as a realistic assessment of the results that can be achieved.  Each client expects and is entitled to an honest evaluation.

The focus of my practice is insurance coverage and bad faith defense litigation.  Prior to practicing law, I worked as a claims adjuster, supervisor, and manager for several major insurance carriers.   In 2005, I received my J.D., summa cum laude, from Southwestern University School of Law, where I served as Lead Articles Editor for the law review. I earned my CPCU designation in 2008, and am currently President-Elect of the Pacific Northwest Chapter of the CPCU Society. I am also  Co-chair of the Claims and Litigation Management Alliance for Washington State. I was named a 2010 Rising Star in the area of Insurance Coverage by Washington Law & Politics Magazine. I am licensed to practice in both Washington and Oregon.. My prior claims experience and legal knowledge help me to effectively evaluate, synthesize, and resolve complex insurance coverage issues ranging from first party property, bodily injury liability, construction defect, professional liability, to errors and omissions.. I am a frequent author and lecturer on insurance coverage and bad faith issues including chapter co-author for the Washington Motor Vehicle Accident Insurance Deskbook 2008 supplement, and co-author of the Oregon and Washington chapters of Insurance Bad Faith-2010, published by DRI. Paul then helped AILA organize Citizenship Day nationally. Currently, over 30 states participate in AILA’s Citizenship Day helping thousands of people become citizens every year.. Paul has received many awards and recognition for his excellent services and volunteer leadership, including:. Paul testifies as an expert witness on immigration law before administrative law judges at Unemployment Compensation Hearings and has provided immigration law training for the administrative law judges. From 1976 to 1991, he was the managing partner of a small law firm in Louisville, KY. In 1992, his wife took a position at the University of Alabama in Birmingham and they moved to Birmingham.
