I joined Siderius Lonergan & Martin in 1995. With more than 35 years experience in federal criminal defense matters, my practice focuses on representing corporate employees and individuals in federal investigations, including grand jury investigations and investigations by federal administrative agencies such as the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Chemical Safety Board and the National Transportation Safety Board.. From 1981 to 1995, I was an Assistant Federal Public Defender in Seattle, handling more than 1,500 federal criminal matters for indigent clients. I continue to take court appointments as a member of the CJA Panel for the Western District of Washington.. I was lead counsel in United States v. Bagley, 473 U.S. 667 (1985). In that case, the United States Supreme Court, ruling for the defense, held that whether or not the defense makes a specific request for information that tended to exculpate the defendant, the due process clause of the United States Constitution required that material exculpatory evidence be disclosed to the defense.. I have lectured on Federal Grand Jury Practice, on Jury Selection in federal courts and on the ethical and practical issues faced as pool counsel.. I served as a volunteer lawyer with the Innocence Project Northwest, in which his client, a defendant in the infamous “Wenatchee Sex Ring” cases, spent six years in custody before his conviction was vacated and he was released from prison.. Honors: One of Washington State’s Superlawyers since 2000; one of The Best Lawyers in America since 2003; as one of the Top Lawyers in the United States by Corporate Counsel starting in 2009; one of the Top 100 Trial Lawyers in Washington State since 2011; and one of the Best Lawyers in Washington State since 2011 by Seattle Business Monthly.
