Michael Hartup has dedicated his practice to representing disabled individuals from the greater Jackson, Tennessee, and Paducah, Kentucky, areas as they seek Social Security Disability or Veterans Compensationbenefits. He believes in the compassionate and respectful representation of the unfortunate individuals who have been left unable to work to support themselves and their families due to injury or illness.. Mike earned an undergraduate bachelor’s degree with magna cum laude honors and his Juris Doctor from the University of Memphis. He is licensed to practice in all Tennessee State Courts and in the United States District Court for the Western district of Tennessee. He has practiced in Federal Administrative Law hearings throughout Tennessee, west Kentucky, southern Illinois, east Missouri, northern Alabama, northern Georgia, northern Mississippi, and northern Louisiana. He is a sustaining member of the National Organization of Social Security Claimant’s Representatives and a member of American Association for Justice. He has been invited by the Tennessee Assistant Commissioner of the Department of Human Services to teach state attorneys and adjudicators a continuing legal education course on the disability claims adjudication process.. Mike represents hundreds of disabled individuals in hearings and appeals every year, but he makes it a priority to meet with each of his clients personally and to be available to their individual needs. He understands that many are bewildered and frustrated by the bureaucratic claims process. He believes it is important to take the time to explain the process and law to his clients and to prepare them for what to expect throughout each step of appeal.. Mike lives with his wife, Mary-Glenn, and their two daughters in Jackson, Tennessee. He and his family are members of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in downtown Jackson. Mike is an avid runner and cyclist. He also enjoys fly-fishing and backpacking. He has run the St. Jude Marathon in both Memphis and Nashville. If he is not in his office or in hearings working diligently for his clients, you can probably find him running or riding the roads of Madison and Crockett Counties.
