Robert was born and raised in Las Vegas. He graduated from the University of Nevada with a dual degree in accounting and computer information systems in 1993. After becoming a CPA in 1995, he left public accounting to pursue a law degree. In 1998, Robert graduated from the University of Kansas School of Law. That same year, he and his wife Graci relocated to Elko (her hometown).
