Mary graduated from Loyola University School of Law (Los Angeles) in 1976, where she was on the staff of the Loyola Law Review, authoring a Note and Comment on Blue Chip Stamps v. Manor Drug Stores, 421 U.S. 723 (1975), and its analysis of the standing requirement for private causes of action under Rule 10b-5. She received her bachelor's degree from UCLA in 1971. She became a partner in the firm of Cheong & Denove (now Cheong, Denove, Rowell and Bennett) in 1977, where she handles the day to day management of the firm, as well as specializing in appellate work, primarily in the area of tort law.. Mary has been an issues editor of The Advocate since 2000, a magazine published monthly by the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles. Her issues have dealt primarily with the area of products liability and accident reconstruction techniques.. She is a member of that association, as well as the Consumer Attorneys of California, the Los Angeles County Bar Association, California Women Lawyers, and Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles. She is a past president of the Cowboy Lawyers Association, where she currently serves as 's interests outside the practice include horseback riding and breeding and raising Morgan horses..
