Janay Farmer is an associate attorney practicing exclusively immigration law, with a focus on complex removal defense, humanitarian processes, and family-based immigration matters. Ms. Farmer practices before the Department of Homeland Security Executive Office of Immigration Review, the Board of Immigration Appeals, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, USCIS, the Superior Court of Washington, and the Department of State. She is admitted to the bars of Washington State, New York State, and the Eastern District of New York.. Ms. Farmer graduated from the University of Washington School of Law. Following law school, Janay worked as an Assistant Professor of Law at Haramaya University School of Law in Ethiopia. Upon returning to the United States, Janay worked and volunteered at numerous human rights and immigration-focused nonprofit organizations in New York City, including MADRE, Girl Rising, Immigration Equality, and the NYC Housing Court, as well as the HIV Law Project at Housing works, where she provided direct immigration and public benefits representation to low-income New Yorkers living with HIV and AIDS.. Ms. Farmer joined Hanis Irvine Prothero in June 2019 as an Associate Immigration attorney. She continues to represent French-speaking asylees Pro Bono for the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project, and is a frequent volunteer with the King County Bar Association immigration clinics and Centro Rendu.
