I came to the United States at only 6 months old, and my grandmother helped raise me while my young parents worked and went to school. My first language was Spanish, and I never spoke English until I went to school at age 6. As a child, I was inspired watching my father receive his Master’s Degree while my mother opened her own hair salon..
