For more than nearly three decades Lane T. Maxson has successfully handled a broad variety of commercial and landlord/tenant actions as well as employment, disability, gender discrimination cases, and whistleblower, qui tam, corporate, education, municipal, and real estate law. Mr. Maxson represents commercial landlords on Long Island and Queens in all aspects of landlord/tenant litigation from summary eviction proceedings to complex plenary actions concerning lease disputes, Yellowstone injunctions, constructive evictions, guarantees, code violations, adverse possession, easements, and the like. For decades, some of Long Island’s largest commercial landlord’s have relied upon Mr. Maxson’s professional advice and efficient services. In qui tam cases, he represents whistleblowers on behalf of the United States and New York State governments, disclosing Medicare and Medicaid fraud and other unlawful false claims and fraud made upon the governments, and recovering monetary awards based upon the size of the governments’ eventual recovery. He also represents the whistleblowers in their direct claims for retaliatory discharge from employment. He has distinguished himself at all levels of the litigation process, from trial through appeal, in both federal and state courts, earning Martindale-Hubbell’s highest AV Preeminent Peer Review Rating and selected to Super Lawyers as a Top Rated Civil Litigation Attorney. He was counsel of record in over one hundred reported decisions.As a member of the Building Owners and Managers Association (“BOMA”), Long Island, he participates in round-tables and shares his expertise in landlord/tenant law. Mr. Maxson has also taught the study of law as an adjunct instructor at Briarcliffe College. He has served on both the Board of Trustees of Dowling College and the Executive Board of the Alumni Association, and was elected as President of the Alumni Association for two consecutive two-year terms. He has served the local community as a member of the Pastoral Council at St. Patrick’s Church in Smithtown, as a member of the Board of Directors of the Long Island String Quartet, as well as the South Shore Boys’ Club and as a member of the American Celtic Pipe Band. Mr. Maxson has taken an active interest in the youth of Long Island as a member and Vice President of the Board of Education of St. Patrick’s School in Smithtown, as a participant in Islip Youth Developmental Services, as an Assistant Scout Master for the Boy Scouts of America, as an ice hockey coach for the Bay Shore High School hockey team, as the coach of his daughters’ soccer teams, with State and regional diplomas through the National Soccer Coaches’ Association of America, and as the coach of his son’s travel hockey teams, with U.S.A. Hockey Coaching certifications, and as a hockey clinic instructor.. Mr. Maxson is admitted to practice in the U.S. Supreme Court, the Second Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern, Southern, and Northern Districts of New York, the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, and all New York State and New Jersey State courts. He is a member of the Federal Bar Association, Eastern District of New York Chapter, the American Bar Association, and the New York State Bar Association.
