Brian W. Schoeneman is the political and legislative director for the Seafarers International Union of North America, the nation's largest maritime labor union. He also serves as Secretary of the Fairfax County Electoral Board.He recently served as managing partner at Acacia Strategies LLC, a government relations firm he founded in August 2009; Executive Director of the American Maritime Congress, from 2006 to 2008; and Director of Government Affairs for the Marine Engineers' Beneficial Association from 2003 to 2006.In addition to his private sector experience, he was appointed Special Assistant and Senior Speechwriter to the Secretary at the United States Department of Labor from 2008-2009.He is general counsel and a member of the Board of Virginia Line Media, LLC, which operates Bearing Drift, Virginia's top political blog. He received a JD, magna cum laude, from the Catholic University Columbus School of Law, an MA in Political Management from the Graduate School of Political Management of the George Washington University and a BA from GW in political science. He served on Law Review, and his comment, on lobbying reform, was published in the Catholic Law Review. He was selected for the 2013 Political Leaders class of the Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership at the University of Virginia. He is admitted to the Virginia State Bar, and his professional affiliations include the Propeller Club of the United States, where he serves as Secretary of the DC Port, the American, Virginia and Fairfax Bar Associations, the Federalist Society, and the Republican National Lawyers Assocation. He is member and former officer of John Blair Lodge #187, AF&AM. In his community, he is Vice President of the Wescott Ridge HOA and serves on the Fairfax County Economic Advisory Commission. He ran for VA House of Delegates in 2011.
