After graduating with a degree in political science from the University of Nevada at Las Vegas, Mr. Taus went to Washington D.C. where he worked for a lobbying firm. Mr. Taus then took that valuable experience and continued his education obtaining his Juris Doctorate degree in 1998 from the University of The Pacific’s McGeorge School of Law, with the distinguished Order of The Barrister’s Award for excellence in oral and written advocacy as well as the Bancroft Whitney AmJur Award for outstanding academic achievment. Since that time, Mr. Taus has dedicated himself towards helping his clients’ businesses flourish.Mr. Taus knows that whether representing a small to midsize business or a larger business, understanding both the legal elements and the practical day to day challenges of operating a business must go hand in hand. From business formation, to drafting of contracts and when needed, protecting clients’ rights through the use of the Courts, Mr. Taus recognizes that each business is unique and has its own goals and challenges. Recently Mr. Taus successfully defended a member of the board of directors, when the company’s attempts to take the company public failed. After nearly five months of trial, Mr. Taus’s client was not only vindicated in obtaining a complete defense verdict, but Mr. Taus also succeeded in obtaining a judgment and cost verdict to compensate the client for the attorney’s fees expended in defending the action.In addition to working with businesses, Mr. Taus works with families of special needs children, advocating for these children to receive the education and services that maximize their potential. Recently, Mr. Taus advocated for a child who had been relegated by the school district to a segregated school. Through Mr. Taus’s efforts in working with both the family and the school district, the child obtained placement in the special education class of the local school. Through the continued efforts of Mr. Taus in working with the family and the school staff, the child’s education now includes integration into some “mainstream” classes with the ongoing goal of complete integration by the time the child reaches high school. Mr. Taus’s work with the family and the school district has been credited with changing some of that school district’s policies in dealing with special needs children.
