James Brian Smith ("Brian") is an attorney and owner of J. Brian Smith Law LLC, representing businesses and individuals in matters relating to business law, real estate, water rights, estate planning, wills, trusts, and probate.. Brian's clients include individuals, sole proprietors, corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies, homeowner associations, water and sanitation districts, health care organizations, home owners, land owners, home purchasers and sellers, real estate professionals, builders, contractors, and developers.. Brian is originally from Virginia, however, he and his wife have lived and worked in New Mexico for 34 years.  Brian received an undergraduate degree in forestry and wildlife from Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University in 1978, and worked for several years in the area of coal mining reclamation in Virginia, Tennessee, New Mexico, and other western United States.  He received a Juris Doctor degree from the University of New Mexico School of Law in 1999. He is a member of the New Mexico Bar, the bar of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Mexico, and the bar of the United States Court of Appeals, Tenth Circuit. Brian is a board member on the State Bar’s Animal Law Section, and he is active in the New Mexico Masons.  Brian and his wife enjoy traveling, hiking, landscaping, and gardening.
